Congestion Pricing.......Deal!!!!!!!
State gets its commission, while Bloomberg gets the majority numbers on it!
Deal struck on new congest plan
.....and enough matching funds to build two Metro-North stations in the Bronx. And up goes the property values!

I was initially pro congestion pricing, but now I have mixed feelings on it. It is yet another thing that would make NYC less of a middle class friendly place.

People from all walks of life take the trains.
The thing is quite a few middle class people drive in for work or business matters from the outer boroughs. They would be most affected by this.

i wonder for how many of those people it's really a *problem* to take transit instead, meaning that it's costly and not just inconvenient. i think it's a matter of weighing their cost in time to get to manhattan from outer boroughs via transit versus the costs of paying for a car.
isn't funds from congestion pricing supposed to fund transit?

Yeah probably half of the people just don't want to give up using their cars, but for some it's a legit problem. Depending on how far you live in the outer boroughs, getting to manhattan using public transit is practically impossible.
In regards to the use of the money, Yeah that's what they are saying now, but this thing could be a cash cow and they've mismanaged the money for the transit system for years, what's to say they won't do it now.

Thank God they got something done. When I read the deal was dead I couldn't believe that the state was willing to pass up $500 million in free money just because Sheldon Silver wanted to throw a temper tauntrum.

Well. I think we could invest in more park and rides. Just cause you live in a double/triple "fare" zone, doesn't mean you can't drive to a parking lot just across the river from "the city".

If it were affordable parking, I would be all for something like that.

It still doesn't matter. Subway riders are going to be ****ed by next year:
$300M shudder
MTA out to hike fares & tolls as it braces for deficits
Moderator cut: copyrighted material
The whole congestion pricing issue was going to help bring money to the all ways broke MTA. Now it looks REALLY bad for people in and around the city. Imagine paying 2.50 for bus or train. AND having to shell out $8 just to enter the city below 59th. AHHH!!!
