How do I get my own apartment? The apartments I've looked at are out of my price range. I currently live on disability and have been for some years now. I can not work at the moment. I do not have Section 8 as I am only 19 and I'm still on the waiting list. I applied for it late. Is there any way to get my own apartment???
PLEASE READ: NO I CAN NOT LIVE WITH ROOM MATES. I HAVE EXTREME SOCIAL ANXIETY. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME TO "GET A ROOMMATE" BECAUSE I WILL ~NOT~ LISTEN.
Would it be better for me to move to another state? I have a voucher for section for a county in a different state on the West coast. I'm still waiting to hear from NYC.

I would say no...sorry, that's the honest answer. I'm sure you're a lovely person but I would never rent to anyone who doesn't have a job...nor would I rent to someone who was only 19. Most landlords want to see some kind of job stability and proof that you are responsible, have the $$ and will pay it on time. Words out of your mouth isn't gonna do it.
What I don't understand here is this person is disabled, his only source of income is disability, refuses to have a roommate (although presumably he can live with family), and it is the tax payer's responsibility to provide him what he feels he deserves. He wants his own apt so since he cannot afford one he gets Section 8 or some other program. But somehow it's ok for an "able" person to be stuck living at home when they can't find a job, or can't afford to move-out, and they can make sacrifices like getting roommates, but this person cannot?
I don't like this attitude or the presumption that I cannot afford this, and I won't compromise, and I deserve that, and the tax payer must provide it!
How many years can you have been on disability if you are only 19. Aren't you a dependent until you are 18? Something isn't right here.
I have been receiving it since I was 16. I will be 20 in March. It was under my mother's name and she received it because she had a disabled child. She would give me the money though. I have been receiving it independently since I was 18 years old.

Actually I've had a few apartments offered to me in the Bay Ridge area, but I don't want to pay $750 for a studio. I would get an apartment in Woodmere(where I live now) but there are only houses here. My parents don't rent , they own the house. So they're not rich. I've lived here all my life. Technically I do have enough money to pay for it because I also receive welfare. But my education isn't free. Financial aid only pays so much, and I need to buy books for school/other supplies for my major. What makes you think I'm irresponsible??? I'm a full time college student. The reason I'm not working is because school doesn't cause me the anxiety working at "McDonalds" would.
Would you have to "work" to live in the NYCHA??
PS I am NOT a troll. Was just asking a simple question. Seems like all the NYCHA threads get good responses. You can delete this thread if you want.

You seem really lazy. I'm sick of my tax $$ going to pay for people like you. I work hard to earn my living...and then my $$ should just go to you so you can do **** all your life?
No.
Next...
PS- I don't exactly consider "social anxiety" disabled. My boyfriend has SEVERE social anxiety and he works and guess what, he pays for his apartment by himself- the government doesn't give him a damn penny.

Pathetic.
The only thing pathetic in this thread is you.
"I don't exactly consider "social anxiety" disabled" lol Are you a doctor? I doubt it the screening process should weed out most retards.
Between the panic attacks and the depression it can be hard to get job and hold one if you have SA, I know i have it, and while i don't collect anything i wouldn't look down on anyone who does, especially if they are going to school and trying to better themselves.
Also your boyfriend is lieing to you.
Please go back to organizing more protests against groups trying to raise money to help the homeless.....

why do you want to live in NYC if you have EXTREME SOCIAL ANXIETY? seems like a bad mix.
