Default From The A to NYC

I've been planning on moving to New York for a couple years and finally think I'm ready.

To answer some people who are thinking why are you moving to NY from Atlanta when everyone's doing the opposite : I'm moving up there to be with my dad for a while who I haven't seen since I was a infant.

He lives in Bedstuy and I was wondering areas around there that would be cool for me to live. I hear alot of stuff about Bedstuy, but I ain't know square. I'm from the hood, but I ain't trying to move no where, where I ain't welcomed.

And do NY folks hate Atlanta cats? I mean I'm not the average ATL dude. I listen to every region's music and really hating how some of these dudes are representing Atlanta with this bubble gum rap and snap crap.

I would really appreciate comments.

If you are gonna be in the Stuy, try to be near Fulton Street, so you can be near public transportation (The A train) and Restoration, which has the Foodtown supermarket. It may be more expensive, but try to be in that part of Bed Stuy if you can get a good deal!

I don't know of anyone who hates an ATL cat. In fact, so many of friends and neighbors have moved down there. But I hear y'all gettin' a bit crowded, and some houses are being foreclosed on. How true is that?

Yeah, it seems like everybody from everywhere are coming down here now for the cheap housing. I mean it's kind of getting out of control. No one in Atlanta are really from here. I ain't even originally from here. But some people are buying these 400's and 500's homes that they can't afford. I'm just happy to get away though for a minute and feel a different environment.

I just graduated from high school too. Do you know of any good community colleges around Brooklyn?

There's only 1 community college in Brooklyn, Kingsborough Community College. Allegedly an extension of high school. I took college credit courses there while in high school. It all depends in the program you want. Word is they have the best nursing and marine based courses there. Nice view to the bay, nice main building, and nice cars along the main street to the entrance. Oh and it's a ***** to get their by transit.

I don't think people will hate you because you are from Atlanta.
CUNY provides some pretty good programs. They have multiple location. Check out CUNY.edu

A list of community colleges in the 5 boroughs:

Bronx: Bronx Community College: Bronx Community College
Hostos Community College: Welcome To Hostos Community College of The City University of New York

Brooklyn: Kingsborough Community College: Welcome to Kingsborough Community College

Manhattan: Borough of Manhattan Community College: Borough of Manhattan Community College

Queens: LaGuardia Community College: http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/
Queensborough Community College: Queensborough Community College - The City University of New York

Best bets would be either BMCC, Kingsborough or LaGuardia for distance, depending which part of the Stuy you plan to stay at...
