i agree with everyone else. if the children can prove they have been living there then the next time the lease is renewed it should be passed over to the child's name. i know someone who has a rent controlled apartment in the east village and pay $150.00 for a 1 bedroom, his son wants to get on the lease, and the reason is because when he passes he wants the apartment to go to his son......anyhow, the landlord is giving them a hard time now to put the son on the lease (and the son really lives there). landlords will always give you a hard time when it comes to things like that. if youre not sure i would ask someone or a lawyer in real estate.
