The humorous part about this thread is how many New Yorkers are slamming Florida... And how many of them live down here... And how many of the people slamming it will be moving down here in the next 15 years.

They move down there only for 2 reasons and trust me its not about the quality of life:
1. Retirement.
2. Got broke in NY, moving to a cheaper place.

To the OP..
Welcome to the Sunshine State, I have a feeling you will really like it down here. There is one VERY important thing you need to do before you arrive. DO NOT COME DOWN HERE WITH A TYPICAL NEW YORK ATTITUDE. Try to blend it, relax, and just go with the flow. Also, don't be one of those people who constantly compares Florida to New York (I have a ton of them on my condo board and I feel like ripping their heads off during our meetings). As long as you leave the whole "New Yorker" thing behind you, you'll be absolutely fine.
Don't listen to the age old stereotypes that you're hearing on here. Most might of been true 30 years ago, like all the rednecks, no dining, etc, but they are simply not true today. You can easily find a great Brazilian, vegetarian Indian, or Thai food almost anywhere down here. You'll find a lot more very attractive blondes than rednecks down here. Imagine is very important down here too!
The heat and humidity is a great thing for me. No soar throats or dry skin from the forced radiator heat that you are probably used to in NY. The humidity is only a problem for people who are overweight (which are the ones who solely complain about it). If you are in shape and don't sweat like a pig, you'll be OK.
New York City is a great city if you make over 250k a year, but I wouldn't be caught dead living their if I made any less. Taxes are too high and the people are just so damn miserable most of the time.

and the humerous thing about people like you is that your type can go around slammming nyc but as soon as nyc does the slamming back its a problem
majority of new yorkers move down to Florida for retirement reasons anyway. I know plenty of working new yorkers who moved down to florida and returned back in a hurry. Money sucks down their and its only a nice warm state for retirees.
Florida is not Georgia.

people in Florida are more miserable then people in new york city. Have you looked at the horrible economy down in Florida??
seems like we have ignorance on this board. hahah i love catching and debating with arrogant people.
BTW your nonsense about 250k a year is bs. No one in my families church makes over 100k and they all are living perfectly fine in nyc. Your ignorance is the reason why people in nyc are bashing FL.

I am extremely happy living in Florida right now.
The economy is bad. My husband has been unemployed for 2 years. We are struggling financially. Money doesn't mean happiness. I am happy. I have a healthy family who lives in a wonderful place. There are so many free things to do that you don't have to have a high income to fill every evening and weekend with activities.
I personally don't know anyone who is miserable in Florida, but I am sure there are miserable people here just like there are miserable people in New York. There are people who just live in the wrong state for them, and there are others that will be miserable no matter where they are.

i agree money isnt happiness. I guess i just love money to much.
but to keep it real having a poor ecnomy can really effect some people so thats why i think the posters view about new yorkers being miserable is double standards.
i like your post i wish i could rep you for it.
