YES! Much better! I don't think you mentioned a budget... check into the Hudson Hotel, Essex House, or Mandarin Oriental that are all on/near Central Park South. The Warwick is also close by and is across the street from the MOMA on 54th & Ave of the Americas.
Other good places to stay are downtown - in SoHo, West Village, & Chelsea neighborhoods.
Those places are very expensive.
My friends really like the Ace Hotel (New York City Hotels : Ace Hotel
). It's not cheap, but it's not as expensive as the Mandarin. It's on the N Train so it's not in
Times Square but it's only a couple of subway stops away if you're seeing a show. It's also a very convenient line to go to the Village, SoHo, etc. It really depends on what you're doing while you're here.
