I am the wife of a sanitation worker and dont understand how they get away with abusing the workers with the constant shift changes and a rotating day off. Every other union allows for a schedule for at least a month in advance. Plus, how can you take someone off the 7pm - 3am shift for 2 days then throw them back to a 12 midnight-8am shift. He went to work this morning happy to be back on a day line 8-4 and was told by the end of the day he was working midnight. This is abuse - does anyone know anything about this - is this legal? Are the 7pm -7am shifts during the snow legal with the dot laws against driving for more than 11 hours in a 14hr period - within a 24hr day. I know this is ignored and it is extremely stressful in our home - feels like this city agency is doing whatever they want and everyone looks the other way. Wtf? Why dont they have a schedule for atleast a week?

So long as there is 8 hrs between shifts They can do that.If you complain to the union they tell you Just go sick if you can't do it or they will tell you be lucky you have a job.Just for the Record we have guys with over 25 years being forced midnights tonight. Also you say every other union allows for a schedule for at least a month in advance but how can plan for a snow storm a month before it comes. Those hours (7-7) are only used for snow storms.
