I won a lottery for Genesis Apts and interviewed for a studio $873 or 1 bedroom $1093 pet friendly heat, hot water,AC included wired for Fios and Time Warner Cable
They have new buildings at
311 west 141st street,
203-205 west 119th street and
2078-2080 Fredrick Douglass Blvd at 112th street.
Which building would be in the best area.
Are the areas safe etc.......... how does the area compare
to the lottery buildings like NorthRose, etc. in the South Bronx
I cannot speak on the apartment located at West 141st street but on the others.
I actually work at the school around the corner from W.112th and Frederick Douglass and pass that development all the time. I would have to say overall that area is nice. You are about 2 blocks from the C/D trains, and 3 blocks from the W.110th street entrance to Central Park. Many great restuarants are opening in the area, and overall it is pretty clean and safe. The location on W.119th is the same. Pretty upcoming area and generally safe.
My first two choices would be W.112th, followed by W.119th.
Either way those are great deals for those areas in Harlem. Good Luck!
The street parking will be tough as there is not enough space for everyone. But that will be an issue anywhere in New York City.
But the best thing would be to take the a day out of your weekend, and just visit these places and walk around to get a sense of the area (that is if you live in NYC already.)
I just got a letter in the mail ... woooohooo lottery! Did they show a floor plan of the apartments? Will you get SEE the apartment before committing? What was the interview like?
I don't but I have a friend who lives on 110th and Frederick Douglas .. the neighborhood is still not truly gentrified but it's getting there ... lots of new buildings, bars restauarants opening. I go the notice today for an interview .. but have only a week to get all papers together and not sure I can make that happen.
Do you want to live in Harlem even though they improve the neighborhood? I don't. If you can, move to Miami where the weather is warmer and you're in company with all those ex New Yorkers.
