Luxury apartments in Queens? Help!
Hi,
I'm currently looking to move to Queens with my boyfriend. We're looking for a 1br apartment in an area that is <30min commute to midtown Manhattan on the F or R lines. Ideally, I'd like to live in a newer/nicer building with laundry in the building as well as new appliances/floors/etc in the apartment. Which areas would you guys suggest that I start looking in? I'm looking to spend maximum $1700, preferably in the $1500-1600 range. Is that realistic?
Also important to me are diversity of restaurants (I love ethnic foods) and proximity to supermarkets/grocery. We're both pretty young (I'm 23) so not looking to move into a suburban neighborhood. Let me know your neighborhood suggestions/ideas.
Thanks for your help!

Astoria in the areas near the R line. I don't know if the price is realistic for the new luxury buildings but you could do some research and find out. I also don't know the exact locations of the newer luxury buildings but there are quite a few throughout Astoria. Plenty of great ethnic eats and markets in Astoria. Also you will find some others around your same age. Check out Astoriansdotcom.
Parts of Long Island City are accessible on the F line and there are plenty of new buildings, but I think your price range is too low (tends to be more expensive than Astoria).

Take a look at the MODA Luxury Apartments. It's in Jamaica, but it's located near the E, F, J, and Z trains, with a 30 minute commute to Manhattan via the E or F express trains. Rents for studio apartments start at $1375, and one bedroom apartments start at $1667. It features many luxury amenities, such as 24-hour concierge and doorman, fitness center, valet service, laundry room, and more. You can use this neighborhood navigator to see nearby neighborhood amenities.

I personally would never suggest Jamaica to a young couple moving to NY. I guess you never know what people are going to like, but I would say if Astoria and LIC are too expensive for new luxury construction, then compromise by living in a nice renovated pre-war that doesn't have the luxury amenities (gym, etc.) that the newer places do.

Queens is boring and mainly suburban with brownstone apartment buildings. I'd recommend Hoboken, NJ since you want cheaper actions with all the amenities nearby. Manhattan is a joke and a ripoff.

I agree with this. Well I should say I'd first get to know what the couple likes, and even after that, Jamaica would still be my last recommendation if it even makes the recommendation list. JMO. As for ethnic food, while there's some ethnic food to be found in Jamaica, it doesn't hold a candle to Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, etc.

Why is it that the people of this forum, particularly the NY natives refuse to call out, the trolls, posers, pretenders, and all those who know little or nothing about NYC and its environs, yet choose to post worthless, misleading and erroneous posts such as the one above?
Nothing in the comment is accurate, nor correct.
Either the poster is Trolling and/or wholly ignorant.

I recommend Rego Park & Forest Hills near Queens Blvd. There are many older doorman buildings that have laundry rooms in the basement and the apts. are renovated with new floors and new appliances. There are several restaurants in the area of different ethnic backgrounds, plenty of supermarkets/grocery stores as well other types of stores. In Forest Hills you have plenty of small store shopping on Austin Street as well movie theaters in the area. In Rego Park, you have Rego Park Center (Sears, Old Navy, Marshalls & Bed, Bath & Beyond) as well as the new Rego Park Center II which has an ALDI food market and Costco as well other chains and dept. stores and some restaurants.

Why not rephrase the above: ' I want everything, but can't afford it!'
Generally, what you want, roughly, starts at about$ 2,000.
You can find something in your price range, but it won't have the amenities you desire. Forest Hills along the F; Astoria along the R.
