Please suggest a town for us!
Me and my husband are considering moving to NYC. We have visited it a couple of times and have fell in love with the city. We plan to move hopefully by early summer (June). Hopefully we can make ends meet while we are up there.
About Us:
We are moving from South Carolina we are both young 20(me) and 27(him). I am a stay at home mom I take care of our two children 4 and 8 months old. My husband works in construction here in SC on average he makes 30k a year. Are there any apartments that fit our budget of $800 within NYC? If not, we may have to rethink our plans on moving and just stay in SC. We would like to live in a family friendly and safe neighborhood. I want to feel comfortable walking my daughter to school and back. So good schools are a plus, we cannot afford private school at the moment.
Thanks for your help.

It will be extremely difficult to find a "family friendly and safe neighborhood" for that price range. Studio apartments go for that range in a "moderately safe" neighborhood here. Now imagine a 2 or 3 bedroom. At least 2x. And the construction industry here is very saturated(?). Allegedly, many construction contractors come from outside NYC. Unless someone knows your husband that can refer him or is in a union, good luck finding a job in construction here.
Honestly if I were in your position, I'd stay put and visit during winter for all the pretty lights.

For 800 you can find a studio in an old tenement in South Bronx.

I'll rent you my fire escape for $850. That doesn't include electric or wireless though.

No but it is rent stabilized. However I am not an honest landlord so expect a 900% increase upon renewal.

Okay sorry for asking geeze..,No need forthe rude responses! I figured there would be more opportunities and a better quality of life in NYC than in SC.

yeah i think the posters were trying to keep it real with you. Didn't want you to come here and be miserable. Your budget just won't allow it. For your kids sake, I think staying in SC is good idea.

That is fine we will stay put then. I still think the city is beautiful, however.
