PS 6 on Madison & E 80's is an excellent public elementary school. After that, most go private. In fact, most of the neighborhood seems to go private anyway. I am not sure if the area near Carl Schurtz Park (East 80's & York, near Gracie Mansion) is zoned to PS6, but if it is, it would be wonderful to live close by as there are playgrounds, a decent sized promenade along the river where kid's can blade/bike/etc.

As for "kid friendly" - do you mean apartment size or amenities in the building? I think $3500+ is where you will maybe start to see a big enough family apartment- in the $2500 range, a 2 br is likely to be on the smaller side and not have a 2nd bath. By 3500, you could possibly be looking at a true eat-in-kitchen or a separate small study/ second living space for kids playroom/tv room. We're talking about a 1000-1200sf apartment for that price and 2br's.

I think your range needs to start at $3,000 at least in order to find a decent sized apartment in those areas. Otherwise you will end up with tiny bedrooms, possibly a small living area, and "kitchen" with no counter space. Plus at the $3,000+ range you will find more that have elevators.

Nope, it's more like $4,250 range. I guess you're going to have head to Lower Manhattan, and you'll find 2 bd apt that's friendly to pets and children for $2,750 a month. You can get them in Grenwich Village.

You cannot beat the UWS for "kid friendly". I have 2 kids and live there. We dont have 2 bathrooms however we have our kids at a great school. I like the Village however feel the UWS is better for kids
Good luck!!
