I've never had a problem when I accompany my black friends and I'm of Mexican origin.

I stop and take you anywhere within the 5 boros, Nassau & Westchester Counties, or Newark Airport, if you can hold your liquor. Falling down drunks are more trouble than a two year old.

Many drivers from the subcontinent of India are petrified of blacks and do not stop for them. Their knowledge of African Americans is basically limited to movies like "The Mack" and "Superfly".

Abuses can be reported at the city 311 helpline but be advised it is not enough to just call up and report the incident. The person making the complaint must also attend a hearing on the matter with the offending driver present. Most people just don't have the time or don't want the confrontation.

I'm a white male and I've had cabs pass me. I think it happens to everyone and it's not always because of skin color.

So a Black guy has to be in a suit and tie to catch a cab in NYC? He can't be dressed casually in jeans, sneakers, and a polo shirt? As a Black guy in his early 30's that's considering a move to NYC, that's a bit disheartening.

It's not like every cab is gonna pass you by, but don't be suprised if they do. It depends on a few things. Moderator cut: Not necessary

Bottom line, it's case by case. I used to hear the same stuff in Chicago.

I've never had a problem getting a cab. Also, IF and when cabs did pass me up, I never thought it was because I was black.

Now, if I am standing next to someone white and we both start hailing a cab at the same time and the cabbie refuses me for them, than that's another story. That has never happened.

i'm from mott haven i am hispanic i get pickdup every where i go.cabbies are afraid of picking up thuggish looking minorities mainly black ones due to the fact that they are the ones robbing cabbies and shooting them many times ending in death.unfortunately law abiding blacks pay for what ghetto thugs with multiple priors have set as a well known stereo type through out america.if you're black and your pants are not hanging off you ass with a hat turned backwards there's a good chance any cab will pick you up.because if you are matching the description i mentioned they have a good reason not to pick you up because that's exactly what every other robber wear's

Of course they do. Whoever said that they do not is just being ridiculous. I have been to NY and have never had more of an issue catching a cab than anyone else. Yes at certain times of the day they will drive past you although they see you flagging them down. This has nothing to do with race. I know this bc I have seen the same thing happen to some of my white and Indian friends/associates in NY. Not a race issue at all.
