I think its funny that it was mentioned that they should have used NYC natives when the city is known for culture and immigration was the making of NYC once upon a time. I personally think its a good show, but like all other tv shows its fiction just like CSI and 24, if all those things happened it would be a crazy world. Its been a worldwide success and is a large tourist point too and the tours are very successful. Many locations used are known worldwide thanks to the show and I bet they are thankful, such as magnolia and the sex shop used in the series. I went on the tour and I enjoyed it. Also cosmos are a world wide phenomenon and I think they were around before the series but have certainly been far more popular since.

Overdose, you have it right regarding HAC NY's comment. HAC NY, are you a millionaire? Can you afford your own spacious luxury loft apartment in the prime of Manhattan? And since when does that make a person 'civilized'?? Just because a person doesn't live in a posh/trendy area doesn't mean they are poor, nor a barbarian. Personally, I find elitist attitudes rather sickening and too pervasive throughout the city. The kind of people I'd work with strictly for the money and it had better be a lot of it. During my off hours I'd want as far away as possible, kicking back dollar beers and keeping the extra $7 I'd save a bottle in my retirement account. All while the so-called Manhattanites run up stratospheric amounts of credit card debt to impress people they barely know. And I can almost guarantee you I'd have way more fun than any of them.

Bad thing. That show was pretentious and ridiculously unrealistic.

What scares me even more is the fact that women watch it believing people actually have experiences such as the ones depicted on the show.

So true. I do think the show can be funny, but it's SO unrealistic. I mean, do they ever even show those women working? They are always sitting and having lunch, or breakfast and gossiping. And Carrie would never be able to afford the lifestyle she lives on a columnist's salary.

Absolutely. As a journalist? She'd be making 30k a year, living in Hoboken, and eating frozen meals for dinner. (Not that there's anything wrong with any of this, btw.)
