Post Don't Drink NYC Water!

Don’t miss this historic opportunity to improve your health by urging NYC officials to stop adding unnecessary, health-robbing, money-wasting fluoride chemicals into NYC’s water supplies in a failed effort to reduce tooth decay in tap water drinkers. Modern science shows that ingesting fluoride can be detrimental to health without reducing tooth decay.

City Council Member Peter Vallone sponsored legislation, co-sponsored by 6 other members, to stop water fluoridation which would save tens of millions of dollars annually. Please contact Mayor Bloomberg, Speaker Christine Quinn and your own City Council Member to vote for this legislation (Int 0463-2011)

Stopping fluoridation is one of the easiest ways to improve your health. It doesn’t require hours at the gym, nine servings of raw fruits and vegetables or eating bland tasting small portions of food - All that’s required is that the fluoride injection system be shut down and the political will to do so. Contrary to common beliefs, studies show, when fluoridation ends so do cavities

A “Fluoride Free New York City” Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fluor...35572943175716 has been set up so New Yorkers can connect and work together to stop fluoridation. Please “like” it, make contact with and keep each other informed.

More information about how you can help spread the word is here https://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=252199261811&topic=16815 (broken link)

Here's current evidence pointing to fluoridation’s harm.

-- Fairbanks, Alaska, Fluoride Task Force recommends ceasing fluoridation (formed as a result of citizen activism)

http://www.ci.fairbanks.ak.us/documents/boardscommissions/fluoridetaskforce/20110315draftreport.pdf (broken link)

-- Kathy Thiessen, PhD, on behalf of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology submitted comments (http://fluoridealert.org/re/thiessen-2-14-11.hhs.pdf - broken link) regarding US Dept of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposal to lower water fluoride levels. Thiessen shows scientifically that, in order to protect health, artificial fluoridation must end completely.

-- Fluoride avoidance reduced anemia in pregnant women, decreased pre-term births and enhanced babies birth-weight, concludes leading fluoride expert, AK Susheela and colleagues, in a study published in Current Science (May 2010).

-- State University of New York researchers found more premature births in fluoridated than non-fluoridated upstate New York communities, according to a presentation made at the American Public Health Association’s annual meeting on November 9, 2009 in Philadelphia.

-- A Tennessee State legislator, Joey Hensley, who is also an MD urged all Tennessee Water Districts to stop fluoridation. At least 30 Tennessee water districts have already complied with his request.

-- The Centers for Disease Control reports that over 41% of 12-15 years olds are afflicted with dental fluorosis due to fluoride over-exposure.

-- US Department of Health and Human Services recommends lowering water fluoride levels to stem the rising rates of dental fluorosis from all sources. (January 2011)

--- The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water will lower safe water fluoride levels because of concerns that fluoride adversely affects bones and teeth. (January 2011)

-- The Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Pesticides proposes to ban fumigant sulfuryl fluoride because of the concern of harmful levels of fluoride residues on foods. (Jan 2011)

-- All infant formulas, either concentrated or ready-to-feed, already contain some fluoride and, when routinely mixed with fluoridated water, increase the risk of dental fluorosis according to Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health, US Department of Health and Human Services in a video commentary published on Medscape.com, March 8, 2011. Yet little effort is made to inform the public.

-- The 25th study linking fluoride to lowered IQ is in the December 25, 2010 Journal of Hazardous Material (The relationships between low levels of urine fluoride on children's intelligence, dental fluorosis in endemic fluorosis areas in China)

-- On April 12, 2010, Time magazine listed fluoride as one of the "Top Ten Common Household Toxins" and described fluoride as both "neurotoxic and potentially tumorigenic if swallowed."

-- Water fluoride chemicals boosts lead absorption in lab animals’ bones, teeth and blood, was reported by Sawan, et al. (Toxicology 2/2010). Earlier studies already show children’s blood-lead-levels are higher in fluoridated communities, (Masters & Coplan)

-- The National Kidney Foundation dropped its fluoridation support replacing it with this caution: “Individuals with CKD [Chronic Kidney Disease] should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure.”

-- Scientific American editors wrote in January 2008, "Some recent studies suggest that over-consumption of fluoride can raise the risks of disorders affecting teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland"

-- Dr. A. K. Susheela, a leading fluoride expert, explains in a video why US physicians overlook fluoride as a possible cause of diseases commonly caused by fluoride. Susheela interview (August 12, 2008) (http://tinyurl.com/Susheela - broken link)

-- Research published in Biological Trace Element Research (April 2009). indicates that blood fluoride levels were significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma than in control groups. Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, occurs mostly in children and young adults and has been linked to fluoridation in a study by Bassin in Cancer Causes and Control (2006)

Fluoride is inhaled in showers and absorbed from baths.

Default NYS Officials Fail to Disclose Own Fluoride Caution

In 1990, the New York State Department of Health (DoH) published a study, “Fluoride: Benefits and Risks of Exposure,” alerting officials that fluoride can be harmful to kidney patients, diabetics and those with fluoride hypersensitivity even at “optimal” levels.(1) But the advice went unheeded, research left undone and today’s claims of safety ring hollow.

Twelve million New Yorkers drink fluoridated water (8.4 million in NYC). As of January 2011, the NYS DoH’s website incorrectly claims that “water fluoridated at the optimum level poses no known health risks.” (2)

Kaminsky et. al report: "The available data suggest that some individuals may experience hypersensitivity to fluoride-containing agents” and " …individuals with renal insufficiency who consume large quantities of fluoridated water are at an increased risk of developing skeletal fluorosis.” Research in these two areas were advised but never conducted.

Further, dental fluorosis was reported in diabetics who consume large volumes of water containing 0.5 to 1.0 mg fluoride/liter, the latter equal to NYS’s fluoridated water supplies.

Malfunctioning kidneys may not adequately filter fluoride from the blood allowing toxic fluoride levels to build up in and damage bones. Symptoms of skeletal fluorosis include bone pain, tenderness and fractures, according to the EPA.(3)
The American Dental Association admits in its Fluoridation Facts booklet "decreased fluoride removal may occur among persons with severely impaired kidney function who may not be on kidney dialysis."

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) withdrew its fluoridation endorsement in 2007, with advice that “individuals with CKD [Chronic Kidney Disease] should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure.”(4)

The landmark 2006 National Research Council fluoride report stated, “Early water fluoridation studies did not carefully assess changes in renal [kidney] function...Several investigators have shown that patients with impaired renal function, or on hemodialysis, tend to accumulate fluoride much more quickly than normal."

Bone changes in advanced kidney patients are similar to bone changes found in individuals with skeletal fluorosis, according to the Fluoride Action Network. This raises the possibility that some individuals with kidney disease are suffering from undiagnosed skeletal fluorosis.

“We know almost half of US kids are fluoride-overdosed as evidenced by their fluoride-discolored teeth, or dental fluorosis,” says attorney Paul Beeber, President, NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. “What has fluoride done to their bones, glands and organs known to collect fluoride? Are they fluoride-hypersensitive? Without such critical studies, claims that fluoridation is safe for everyone are unproven and groundless,” says Beeber.

90% of the City's water does not need to be filtered(meaning at a water treatment plant, not brita).

We have one of the best water sources in the world.

Watch the movie Gasland, and dont EVER LET NATURAL GAS fracking to occur near our watershed/shale!
