Here is my survival question for the members of the forum (New York: how much, to buy)

OK, you folks realize that 'bugging out' to somewhere safe is practically impossible, right? Do you really think that millions of people are getting over a few bridges and through a few tunnels? And where would you go?
I keep a few supplies when I travel into the city, in the hopes that I could get home in 1-3 days. Otherwise, it's a stay-in-place plan that I'm working on for a few months of survival. Any longer than that, and I don't want to survive. People can get info on the survival forums here, depending on how long they want to plan for.
Well, I'd want to get home to Jersey, so that means crossing the water somehow. Last time I took a boat. Fortunately, NJ is a state with a long coastline and a whole lot of boat owners. Of course, in the event of an earthquake that spawns a tidal wave, that could put most of the boats out of commission. On the other hand, since I live six miles inland, I might find myself the sudden owner of a waterfront property. So, yes, I'd want to go home, not stay in Manhattan, and travel over water would be the most likely way.

I've always been afraid that something would happen while I was in Manhattan. I was stuck at a friend's house in the West Village for 3 days as they shut the city down. I had gone there to see my friend, a survivor, and they shut everything while I was there. I was going to walk through Brooklyn, over the Verrazano and then walk home (I think they closed the B Bridge in the evening anyway). I just hope I'm in my home area if anything happens.

Otherwise, NYChistorygal, you cross over to Jersey with me, we get the train down near the shore where I live, and then we'll find somebody with a boat to take you across the water back to SI! How's that?
I can see the southern part of Staten Island across the water from my train in the morning.

Thanks Queen! But they shut down Staten Island too! Walking was the only way. A friend did it - took her at least 8 hours. At least I was relatively safe with a bed to sleep in!
I've decided to just wing it in an apocalyptic scenario. I'm prolly gonna start eating ppl after awhile. Yes, I do have a choice few in mind... ;-)
There's always rat kebab or honey-roasted roaches.
