Building a Manhattan PENTHOUSE
Hey guys!!
My name is Vanessa, i'm not from the US, but I'm moving to NYC in 2013. I know it seems like there's a lot of time 'till that actually happens, but I have to get started with the planing and money stuff..
Please don't judge, I just need help!
So, I'm moving to Manhattan, but I don't know where.. I wanted to move to the Upper East Side, rent an apartment there, but I don't knooow.. So I was thinking.. since I'm moving when I finish highschool and I study building&architecture at a proffecional school, can't I sketch my own apartment? I mean, can I buy "a lot", like the top of a building and build my apartment on the top, because I want it to be my design?
Please answer, i've got many questions and it's important to me!

Designing your own place in Manhattan would easily exceed 1 million. Better off renting a high end place if you have the funds.

Bottom line: If you have access to up to 1 million, you'll be able to live in Manhattan no problem (for some finite amount of time, if the money is finite, of course).
Be aware that there are many just like you, who aspire to live/act in the bright lights of New York or Los Angeles....this is not something that happens easily. You need to either know someone or have a very, very special talent and hope that you get noticed.
If you are still in high school, you have ample time to decide where you would like to go.
Best of luck.

Moderator cut: Not necessary
In what kind of world have you ever heard of adding on to the top of a building?

Best thing you can reasonably hope for is to buy an apartment in a building and then gut renovate it.
