I lived in CT from 2000-2003, and rode the Metro North into the City at least twice a month. Yeah it is as expensive as you can imagine, but I agree its worth every penny. I only encountered 3 or 4 rude people while I was there. I found most people to be quite pleasant. I now am back in Dallas, but long for the day I can return to actually LIVE IN the Center Of The Universe.....NYC......I LOVE IT!!!!

Wild Style,
You from Marcy? I grew up in Tompkins, and my place of worship is still in the Tompkins area.
FYI....They got two condo buildings on Myrtle Av between Tompkins and Marcy. There was a 1BR listing for $240K a while ago, and it's now been taken off the board (sold?).
And I don't know if you remember that crack avenue known as Ellery Street. Well, those town houses they built there 15 years ago to clean that area up (across from the Pfizer plant)? The original prices were around $250-$200K back then. I saw two houses on that block recently that both sold......for $675K!!!!!! Bananas!!!!!!!
Just two weeks ago, a 14-year-old kid was murdered in Tompkins. Bed-Stuy North still got issues; issues that need to be addressed for the benefit of longtime residents there. But the ironic thing is that development, believe it or not, is still happening.

So being 75 and having lived there his whole life, would probably mean that he's one of the lucky ones who bought and paid for his house, raised his family and was just about retired before the city became unaffordable for most of the general population?
I am sure having lived there all his life he would have to love the place, no doubt, but he probably has no idea what trying to afford to live there is like for a modern day a middle class person/family.

what up, fam is from Marcy. When the generation before me arrived to NYC they all moved to Marcy, some stayed some fanned out. My parents settled in the bush which is where I am from. But have TONS of fam in Marcy and Albany houses.
Those prices for condos and townhouses you quoted for that area is absolutely ignorant. I just hope the bubble busts in NYC and soon, its long over do man. Just go to NYT and peep that foreclosure map they have, its ridiculous. I think NYC suffers from the same sickness florida suffered from. People think just cause its NYC that the world is gonna flock there and put up with absurd prices, even when you have to deal with low income and high crime areas.
What part of Bx you rest in? Got tons of friends from gunhill and kings bridge. I used to be "righteous" growing up (don't know if you know what that is) so ran with a lot of 5%ers from Bx.

What makes a townhouse next to three PJ's go from $150-200 to $675K in the course of 15 years? Three factors: 1) 10 minutes to Manhattan; 1a) it's just South of Williamsburg, whoose hood is no longer a hood! 2) Woodhull Hospital (docs may wish to buy property close to work!) and 3) The Hasidim is developing and buying everything up in much of that area and has the cash ready! Flushing Ave is currently getting a total facelift. And if you come back to NY for visit, check the demographics of a G train ride. It will shock you!
And check on the Bush in 10 years....maybe less than that!

I officially love New York but I have never lived there.
Great memories of every trip to Manhattan and anywhere else in the City for that matter.
NYC will always have a special place in my heart.......

Hi everyone,I`m quite new here and I`m a long time New yorker;Staten Islander to be exact.
I do love it here. It has it`s pros and cons. It may not be perfect, but it`s where my family is at, its`s the life I have known for some years, and it`s hard to change that.
There`s lots of culture, history and excitement here and there are times where I may grouse about the cons, but I wouldn`t exchange this place for any other.....
