What positions?

There is no way they are hiring temps for the front office as another posted stated.

Temps in IBD, S&T, FICC, etc? lol

They might be hiring temp back office folks but working in the BO at a BB IB is nothing special. All the money to be made is in the FO.

YES!!! Do you guys even KNOW what type of positions are FO? I'm starting to think you don't. Please educate yourself. They are hiring temps for EVERYTHING. Front, middle and BACK office.

I agree. I-Banks have been hiring a lot of temps for years. They like it that way. Can get rid of someone at the drop of a hat. Plus they don't have to give out those storied BONUSES to temps so there's more left for the few "real employees."

Yup, exactly and it's making the temp agencies FILTHY rich. They'll tell you "temp-to-perm" to make positions sound promising. I have YET to see ONE temp worker, at my agency working for big firms, go from temp-to-perm. Some have been temping for nearly 2 years. I guess if they like it that way right?

Oh, btw, most of the positions that come in, we are billing $45-65/hr to the investment firms and paying our temps in the neighborhood of $18-26/hr.

Do you know what FO entails?

I'm getting involved in this convo because I know.

There is no way they are hiring temps in Investment Banking (IBD), Sales and Trading (S&T),Research, Investment management, Wealth Management, etc. Absolutely no way in hell.

They may be hiring in mid and back office but that is an entirely different story.

Do YOU know?

Continue to THINK what you wish, but I work for an agency that staffs this AND I previously worked at one of the top 5 hedge funds in NYC.

LOL. Can you even control yourself? I've posted two times in this thread: the post you responded to and the one above that. How am I "spewing ALL kinds of misinformation?" That's what you've been doing in 80% of your posts.

Most investment firms hire temps at some levels. None that I know of does so in the front office. Had you worked in a FO you would know that.

Also, you keep telling everyone to run from NYC. Do you even begin to understand how the rest of the country is doing? The fact is that if you are good at what you do, you at least have a chance here. What's more, if you are unemployed in New York, you have the option of working low paid gigs to get by while you try to get a better job. Try doing that in a city like Miami for example. Even minimum wage jobs are highly competitive over there.

Stop telling others how miserable everyone is in NYC, it isn't remotely true.

bigger isn't always better dear. my m.o. is to go for relatively big but not gargantuan. theres so much upside to (for lack of a better phrase) "aiming lower" (lower in terms of size, not any other context)

slightly less competition, fewer wannabes, the list goes on
