Thank you for posting those pictures. Remember there was a war when these were taken. I love the photo with the sailors - reminds me of On The Town.
Not only did everyone wear hats, but white gloves were a must for the ladies during warm weather and men wore a "coat" and tie even when they were not working and just staying home. You went to the "pictures," not the movies. Although you may think that some of those buildings seem run down, many had beautitful decorative details on the moldings and the iron railings and gates. I wish we still had candy stores like the ones in the photos. I have family pictures like these in some albums, but they are all B&W.
I think living in NY in that era would have been so awesome. (Of course nobody growing up in that era probably thought so, but those were great times in America)
