I stand corrected. I still think it's stupid to judge a place by a screen shot.
agreed.
If anyone checked the street i live on on Google maps, they might come to the conclusion that there is plenty of available parking. In the photos, probably only half the available spots on the street are taken. The only time this EVER happens is from 10am to 10:30 am on the two days a week when street cleaning has just taken place. I guess the google truck must have passed at exactly that time.
The rest of the time, an available spot lasts approximately 30 seconds. That is, unless there is a car double parked, hovering, in order to take the spot when someone pulls out. In that case, it lasts approximately 0 seconds.
You are missing my point entirely. Wasn't Tokyo pretty much destroyed a few months ago? Does Google maps reflect that?
You cannot judge any place by one screen capture. It's reflective of one moment in time, nothing more.
Also agree with Eastbown&down...this is an idiotic discussion.
No Tokyo wasn't destroyed by that earthquake. They had an earthquake but it did little damage in the city. Most of Japan has earthquake proof buildings, some of the best in the world.
I think another reason NYC is so dirty and run down is because it is a liberal city. Most liberal cities are dirty and run down, look at Detroit.
Just to put things in perspective, Tokyo has a higher pop. and pop. density than NYC and it remains one of the cleanest cities in the world but history played a hand in that. Tokyo was just about completely destroyed by carpet bombing raids in WWII so most of it had to be rebuilt otherwise it might be a whole lot dirtier than it is today. I would imagine if NYC had to be completely rebuilt today, they might do things a little differently too to allow for garbage collection, sewage treatment, etc.

Yeah, also culturally those two places couldn't be farther apart. NYC has always had a huge influx of people from 3rd world countries who unfortunately sometimes have different standards of cleanliness than the Japanese.
But also a good point about the post WWII rebuilding. In some way it's like they got a blank slate to start all over.

Regardless of how dirty NYC is, it doesn't change the fact that is the greatest city in the world.
The comment about NYC being a "liberal city" is quite amusing because there is no such thing as a "conservative" city. All the "cities" in the south are nothing more than glorified suburban sprawl. They are hardly "cities."

It is a liberal city, and a run down and crime-ridden city. Not to mention overrun by illegals. It will turn into San Francisco soon.
OKC is a conservative city, a big one, and a very clean and safe one. Dallas, Atlanta, and Houston are anything but suburban sprawl, but those cities aren't exactly conservative either.
What is wrong with suburbs anyway?? They are safe, clean and great places to raise kids.
