There was a danceschool on 243rd street as well called Dance Street back in the 80's and 90's. Adele is still going strong and her dance school is still there even though Dance Street has moved on.

I remember it as Dance Street. My daughter went to it for years. They had some great June recitals.

-Good Humor Ice Cream Truck. I can hear the bells now. Eugene was the ice-cream man, he wore that little metal coin changer around his waist. I can also remember Mister Softee. (Preferred Good Humor)
-Playing Little League Baseball in Brookville Park. Sometimes on an field that wasn't made for baseball. I remember the field on the JFK side across the street from the park.
-Picnics with my mother and sisters in Brookville Park. (late '60's)
-Walking to Green Acres and going behind the Drive-In Movie Theater. There was that small dirt passageway behind the rear metal wall in the back of the movie theater parking lot. There were areas along the way where the metal wall was bent open on the bottom so you could sneak in or watch a movie from back there.
-Bowling on Saturday mornings at the Green Acres Lanes. Game room downstairs. (Pinball)
-Playing handball all the time in the P.S. 138 schoolyard.
-Parades on holidays going past my house on 147th Ave.
-Fourth of July Fireworks.
-The Bazaar every June in the back of St. Pius.
-Wonderful teachers in P.S. 138. Walking home for lunch. In the winter, through the snow.
-Hanging out with tons of friends on the side street and playing football, baseball, kickball and of course, Ring-O-Leveo. (I don't know how it's spelled)
-243rd Street. The candy store on the corner. The Pizza Place across the street. The bakery next to the candy store... The post office down the street, and the library. One of my first remembrances of life is in that library, being read to in a circle.
-The hardware store and the bike repair guy 1 block off 243rd.

I can go on and on all day. It was another lifetime ago, but feels like yesterday. I've lived in Florida over 30 years now but always think about my life in Rosedale and smile...
You won't believe this, but the bike repair guy, Able Repair, is still there! And it looked like it was still in business. I just got back from a Christmas vacation to NY and I drove through the old neighborhood and I'll be damned, but Ables is still there. It can't still be run bu the same guy. He fixed my bikes many, many times. That's going back about 30-35 years ago! Great post. Every one of those bullets is a great memory for me as well.

Default Who fished at Twin Ponds and Brookville Park?

Who fished at Twin Ponds and Brookville Park?

I loved catching the Sunies and eels. For being so small, they gave a good fight. They loved worms.

The carp and goldfish were bigger, but had no fight. The carp and goldfish loved bread.

The ponds were also loaded with frogs, snails and turtles.

Default remember rosedale

Yes, I certainly remember Bohacks -- wasn't the store across the street - actually next to the Pizza place - called Mets?
What great memories..... of our little town.

Rosedale bakery and Palermo's which also sold Pizza. Bambi's is still there, in name only. Not the same. St. Pius closed two years ago. Rosedale Sports Assoc. was the thing to belong to back then, besides CYO. Some of the best memories of growing up. Thanks for reminding me.

Do You Remember...
Bambi's? On 243rd St?
The St. Pius School Bazar? In their schoolyard.
Replaced by the Sons of Italy Feast? In their parking lot
That The Sons of Italy building used to be Pizza King? 147th Ave abd Brookfield Blvd
Walking to Green Acres? Through the open gate behind Sunrise Cinemas
The rumor every year that the city was going to setup a hockey rink in Brookfield park? It was supposed to be built near the fire house.
The old Drive-In theater? Always looking at it when leaving the mall at night.
Twin Donut? On Sunrise Highway.
Herman's Sporting Goods in Valley Stream? It was always a mess inside.
When Hook Creek Road was bumpy? Pothole capital of New York.
The Gully in Brookfield Park? Next to the tennis courts.
The Boat House in Brookfield Park? Used to rent paddle wheel boats for the lake.
The two baseball fields used for the "farm" level of Little League? Between the commuter parking lot and Hook Creek Blvd.
Snake Road? Don't have an auto break down when traveling on it.
Rosedale Sports Association? Entrance was a side door.
Danny's Cabs? Also know as Danny's Dare Devils.
Walking to "Town"? 243rd Street
The 747's out of Kennedy? Saturday morning, 7:45am.
When President Regan visited in 1985? Drove right down Francis Lewis Blvd into North Woodmere.

Every now and then my friends and I still talk about Father Joe. He was a great priest and did wonders bring the youth back into church. Yes, he did leave the church and last I heard he was happily married.
