Hi Lou,
Yes I did get the answer about the Deli. It was Heinz's. Great food. I remember Bohacks and Met Foods. I worked for years at the Key Food (which used to be the Bohacks)
I remember Fr. Joe very well. Did you know that Sister Patrice, who used to be the Principal at St. Pius, also left the church and got married and had kids too? Crazy!

I do
Vic's was originally on Merrick just west of 225th st in Laurelton near the Chinese restaurant IIRC . He had a slot car track in the back I think . He then moved to Springfield Blvd north of Merrick .
Dans was the supermarket my father complained about , stating that it would drive the Italian grocery store across the street out of business . That was the beginning of the end . Remember the empty bottle return pipes at the registers ?
What about Pete's candy store , The Central candy store , and the name slips me today of the one near Key Food that was originally Bohack . Some long German name ..... damn .

Just remembered , Tannenbaums was that Lunchenette . By the way , The Central and Petes had grills for burgers , I think Tannenbaums just had stools and a counter for sodas and shakes .
Anybody remember Tillys Flower Farm on 147th Ave just west of Brookville Park ?
The potato Farm that became Great Eastern Mills in Elmont , now Home Depot .
Whiteys Stable at 147th and Francis Lewis .
Laurelton LIRR station when it was at ground level .

I thought Tannenbaums was Uncle Milties or some like that. I also rember that a liquor store was on the corner across from them that was before the Pizza place. Does anyone remember the Mod cut: language on Springfied Blvd going toward Rockaway Blvd before they closed the road ? It was like a 2 story cement building on the leftside going toward Rockaway, one day I guess the city knocked it down. Nobody seems to remember it, around early 60's I would like to do some history on it.

I go to rosedale every week to see my mom. Rosedale was the best. I work at stuyvesant hs in manhattan for the past 25 years. I coached the football team till 2004 and i'm still coaching the varsity baseball team. When visting my mom i still take home j/s pizza still the best. I lived on 259 street and 148 drive.

Touch football and stickball days

I can still remmember playing stickball till my mother called us in for dinner, ignoring her till my father made us come in ,gulping down dinner then going out to play again till dark. But that all seems so long ago. Don't remember a lot of girls around but that's probably because we were too busy playing ball. I lived on 149th Ave & Brookfield Boulevard by the swamps overloking JFK. Planes were brutally loud . Matty, I too was on the receiving end of many Sister Agness Roberta's Friday afternoon padddle spankings on the posterior. I do want to go back just for an afternoon just to drive around and relive some of the memories. I still stay in touch now and then with childhood best friend Joe Kinneary
