By the way, while you're there in the summer, could you check out the areas north of the tracks to make sure they warrant their red shading? I'm pretty confident that west of Harbor Road should be red, but I'm not sure of the areas east of Harbor Road if they should be downgraded to orange. I mean, I do see people hanging out at the deli, which is what people described in some areas like Washington Heights, but I'm not sure if there's any illegal activity or if they're just hanging out (and south of the tracks, you don't really see that, but I don't know if it's 2 shades worse or only 1)

I've recently started going to the area a lot (at least once a week) and my friend that lives out there definitely did mention she didn't like the area around South Avenue and Arlington Place. She lives close to Forest Avenue so we don't really venture up there that much. We have driven towards Richmond Terrace a few times going down Harbor Road and it looks considerably worse than the area around Forest Avenue.
It's kinda interesting to me because I never visited Staten Island and was surprised to see it had some "rough" areas. I obviously knew it did, but didn't really believe it, you know?

I didn't really believe it until I started visiting there myself in my early 20s.....before that the only reason I went to Staten Island was bus trips. I didn't even know it had housing projects until the 1st time I saw Todt Hill Houses from the expressway. Then Wu-Tang came out. Lol. My friend told me that back in the '80s the Park Hill area was really bad. Still looks pretty crappy.

It goes to both extremes. You have people from the other boroughs who assume SI has no hoods, and then you have people from the South Shore who are afraid to venture north of the expressway. That's part of the reason I started those safety maps: Because I knew certain parts were actually bad, and some were so-so, but nothing too terrible, and some areas are really nice (like say, Randall Manor), but their reputation is somewhat lowered by being close to a bad area (or one that's seen as bad).
And yeah, I know what you mean. On one hand, you're thinking "SI is so suburban and perfect. How could it have any really bad areas?", but on the other hand, you know every place has it's rough spots.
But yeah, like I said, that Arlington Place/South Avenue intersection looks especially seedy.

Actually, the first time I saw the Todt Hill Houses, I didn't even realize they were housing projects.

We've gone over this already he's a troll/poser... Not a bad one but nothing he says is of prior experience... it's clearly taken from the internet... Like I said before, he's probably a kid from St. Albans, Cambria Heights, Laurelton, Jamaica Estates, or the good part of Springfield Gardens claiming hes from South Jamaica since he lives nearby... Its like the kids from my neighborhood who claim they're from Bushwick even though they're a couple blocks away...
What gave it away for me was when he talked about living in South jamaica and buying a house for his parents somewhere else and then talking about his age on another post... Right now hes just looking to post somewhat decent information to make himself feel important is my guess...

Well, I did see him mention something about living near Union Hall Avenue & 111th Avenue in one of the other forums (of course, he could've been using a friend's house or something)
But yeah, he's obviously trying to act tough. I mean, who the hell would come up with a username like that anyway? Not even South Jamaica boy, but South Jamaica, Queens boy, just so there's no confusion that he's from "the hood". I mean, really, how many threads do we need talking about "worst hood", "worst project", "top 10 hoods", like really?
