There are 11 NYC Housing developements in SI. The ones on the North Shore... Richmond Terrace, Jersey St, etc, are the worst. I think the Todt Hill & South Beach ones are the better ones.
richmond terrace - trash
stapelton - trash
todt hill - ok by nycha standards
mariners harbor - trash
south beach - ok
berry houses - ok i think
lafayette - for seniors only
park hill - not nycha but trash

I live 5 blocks from the West Brighton Houses. I have seen worse but they are pretty bad. The Stapleton ones are very, very bad as is the surrounding neighborhood. St. George is very bad too.
There is a housing project on Richmond Hill Rd... would that be the Todt Hill one? They don't look too bad.
The waiting list for a NYCHA unit can be years and years, and I'm not sure you have much say in which complex you move into. My husband grew up in public housing in Queens and the waiting list to get in was 10+ years.
FYI, Markham Gardens is not "traditional" NYCHA property anymore. In the rebuilt Markham Gardens, more than half of the space went to Section 8 applicants while the remaining units went to residents who made between $40k to around mid $80k. It's a mixed income development, I guess...
HOW VERY INTERESTING. I THINK I HAD READ THAT MARKHAM GARDENS WAS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE PREVIOUSLY. DID THAT DEVELOPMENT GET IMPLODED IN ORDER TO REPLACE IT WITH THIS NEWER DEVELOPMENT.WHAT DO U THINK OF THAT?
