employer won't pay me...help
Ok 2nd question, which oddly involves money as well. I am work as a cater water for several different companies, one of them being a staffing company. I got hired in May by the staffing company in a group "interview" (it really ended up being a non-interview where everyone just filled out their paperwork). I should have gone with my guy to begin with I know (lesson learned), but I took 2 jobs from this company and have only been paid for 1 (the other being a 12 hour job). The "company phone #" is actually a message that gets redirected to the only contact of the "company's" cell phone. At first he was returning my emails and now nothing. I did get one pay check, so there is some legal tax information available. What I am wondering is if there is some agency through NYC that I can/should be going through to help resolve this and get my money (rather than going through small claims court).
Thanks so much.
I should add: this is a new "company" and the information they have given their employees is minimal at best....which I didn't start to question until after I worked 2 jobs for them and started realizing something was not quite right. The contact who mailed out the job offers never signed his name to any of the emails (EVER) and the mailing address for the company's midtown location I think might actually be BS....it is where the "interviews" were held, but I am now suspecting that the guy might have just rented out a board room for the day. There was a second company that he said was associated with it ( a catering company in Long Island he said) but when I google mapped it recently, the streetview shows a garage/warehouse.

As you said "lesson learned". Don't EVER take jobs like this from unknown companies!! There are plenty of staffing companies in Manhattan where you can get legitimate work and get paid as promised.
At this point --- unless you have this person's name, contact info, etc ---- there's not much you cna do to get your money. I would, however, go to the Attorney General's office and file a complaint (bring all paperwork, emails, etc with you)
