Sometimes people in poorer neighborhoods don't have decent supermarkets, hence them traveling to the Whole Foods. I live in a poor neighborhood, and before Stop and Shop opened last year, I didn't have any place worthwhile for fresh produce or meat. It was either Waldbaums 60 blocks away or take a drive to Costco in Nassau County. But what poor person has a car?

Keep in mind two things children that are poor should be allowed to have snacks within reason. Also I never heard of snacks being a Luxury. Some people need sugar like a diabetic person who needs a candy bar etc every so often.

i agree with most of you posts but, there are a lot of poor people who do have cars.

Man F all that!!! I still need to know when cheetos and m&ms became luxury? Seriously, someone please explain. If thats the case, I should start packing my son a dry ass turkey and bread sandwich for school. after all mayo amd mustard are considered extras, excuse me "luxuries"....

True, I was reading an article about that some time ago. There are a lot of areas in NYC that need good supermarkets. But of course, that'll take money away from the little corner bodegas that sell rotten fruit.

I guess I speak from personal experience. Majority of the people who I know personally that live in the projects do not have cars.
