I am considereing self wall-mounting the TV (46 incher)...but a bit frightened. I know there is a learning curve to this kind of thing and attempt #1 is apt to be dicey.

My brother mounted a 42" HDTV few years ago on his own. The most
scary thing for us was finding the studs, we were so worried about the
TV would just drop off because the wall is not strong enough to hold it
in place. It turns out okay as it stay there for 3 years until we wanted
to change for a 52", but we just bought a TV stand for the 52" this time.
If you want to do it on your own, make sure to have a Stud Finder,
Electric Drill, and Socket Wrench first. You can easily find them from
your local hardware stores. And watch some youtube video on how
other people do it.
There is not much to mounting the television. The trickier part is what you are going to do with the wires. If you are content to just have them hang down, or cover with some furniture or wiremold, then hanging a t.v., particularly a newer lcd or led that weighs very little, is not complicated.
If you need specific advice, you need to gather some basic information about wall composition (drywall, plaster, brick, etc.) and stud materials (metal, wood).
