This is really just an advertising thread so it probably should be removed.

Advertising threads and posts are very annoying to most people.

Au contraire, this is neighborhood news.
Had it been a recommendation for an old store I'd agree it is advertising, but a NEW large supermarket opening on the Upper East Side is NEWS.

I don't know Fairway and I was going to go over to the West Side for comparison but then I thought, why not just wait til Wednesday.

I hope they are giving away freebies: champagne would be nice.

What kind of store is Fairway? Prices? (Good prices and less chi-chi would be welcome.)

edit: I think I'll take the bus over to the West side.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...

No!
Their prices are great and there is nothing pretentious about the place.

There!

Cross my Heart!

The one in Red Hook has an olive oil "bar" with sliced up baguettes for sampling. No one minds if you double dip.

No it letting others know of a new store location is opening in the hood. Looks to me that a lot of people are not annoyed with it. Some are happy to hear about the new location.

So I went to FAIRWAY on 75th and Broadway.
Not gonna be for me. FAR too expensive.

Ground Chuck at $4.99/pound (presumably meat from the Chicago stockyards.) ORGANIC Goround Chuck at $7.99 a pound (presumably from the chicago stockyards.) I wouldn't pay $4.99 a pound for hamburger if Jesus Christ himself operated the grinder.

Everything was 50% higher than I could get it elsewhere.

The only thing I found at a fair price were 4 plums.

I'll go to the Grand Opening to see if tthere are any freebies or super-bargains, but that will likely be the last time I go in. Hello again, Key Food and Associated!

Of the existing Fairways, I think the original location on Broadway is probably the most expensive, for obvious reasons. The Harlem store is slightly cheaper and has a bigger meat selection (they have an entire walk-in refrigerated area, which includes meat, dairy and other items that need refrigeration). The one in Red Hook is even cheaper than either of the other two.

The new one will probably be comparable to the Broadway store, in terms of price. Hopefully, it won't be as cramped.

These days, I find myself shopping at either Fairway or Trader Joe's.

Awesome, this is close to where I work.

I've never shopped at a fairway before.

Do they have any prepared food options for the lunch crowd?

I hate the UES venues for take out lunch. Near me, the only good places are the soup stop, wok88 and Mikes pizza.
