That in turn causes the poorer native NYers to be outcharged out of their own neighborhood that they've lived in for decades. Wouldn't that make you mad if that happened to you? Many of the transplants who come here are because of the media like Sex and the City which makes lots of them want to live the TV life. Most desire the idea of city life after decades of suburbanization they are tired of it. The problem with it, is that there isn't enough supply and New York City is the only city that is the ultimate urban experience many transplants crave. The best thing would have been if we could give the transplants the urban experience they crave by building Manhattan-type enviornments in neighboring counties for them to live in instead of displacing those already living in there. So that natives and transplants don't have to compete with each other and result in destroying communities. I certainly would have wanted that to give transplants what they want without destroying communities and raising the cost of NYC too high.

Lack of education among older New Yorkers. The city is not becoming suburban at all.
This city changes all the time and will always be diverse culturally and economically, at least as long as we are alive.

What? I didn't say New York is becoming suburban. I was saying that the trend is that many young people and rich and famous desire the city life. The trend of the "All American Dream" of owning a huge McMansion in a suburb is not liked by the younger generation, and many rich and famous are moving into NYC. That then causes too much demand for people to move into NYC which is very unhealthy and it causes gentrification. TV shows like Sex and the City and others which depict life in NYC and other major cities as glamourous also influence many to want to live in cities where in the 50s through early 90s the city was known as something undesirable to stay away from. Now increasingly the young are looking at the suburban life their parents and grandparents brought them up in to be both very boring and enviornmentally unstable, and this shift caused the demand for young transplants to want to live in NYC.

But look at East Morrisania, South Bronx. Full of terrible suburban style buildings. The whole urban landscape has been destroyed. Take a walk along Simpson St. for example.
The new 6-8 story buildings in Melrose looks better.

There are just as many immigrants from poor and working class backgrounds moving into this city if not more. The Asian, African, Afro-Caribbean, Latin American, and Eastern European waves continue. We need affluent Western European, Latin American, Asians and Americans from other areas to move here as well.
Gentrification is a blessing. However the city still has poverty centers/undesirable areas to stay away from, still has areas dominated by specific cultures, still has economic diversity.
In fact NYC has improved in a lot of good ways, like a decline in violent crime and increased urbanism while still keeping in tact what makes it unique; again urbanism and diversity.
How cool is it now to visit the L.E.S. Years ago going there was not worth it considering the place had decayed to max (boring) and was downright dangerous since there was so much desperate poverty all over. Now there are still some violent areas (specifically in the PJ's or after a Hip Hop concert) but you can now enjoy yourself, and actually have fun.

Charlotte Street corridor is only a few blocks, the rest of that area is dominated by apartment buildings with lots and rowhouses between them. The rest of the South Bronx is dominated by apartment buildings by far with a good number of rowhouses.
BTW, rowhouses are not suburban bro. If that's the case then Brooklyn is suburban as hell, and Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are not cities.

I can agree with that. Plenty of under 18 year old mothers too.

I agree. I would rather date a women focused on her education and career without the baggage and ghetto baby's daddy in the picture. I can't believe how many women in the city, natives wise have children so young and get so fat.
