You really want an answer to your question? OK--it's the attitude that comes oozing out of that first sentence. It's not New Yorkers who think they're better than transplants; it's transplants who think they're better than New Yorkers.

You, personally, might live here...but you're no New Yorker. How can I tell? Because you actually typed those words, "NYC is more well known now than ever." I'll give you the benefit of the doubt--perhaps you'll fit in, in time.

It's because with transplants everything else becomes tighter. Bronxguyanese is right when he says that jobs become more scarce and that prices go up on everything because transplants are willing to pay for it.

btw from what i've noticed, transplants aren't just from dixieland...alot of people from Long Island, West Chester and other parts of NYS bring their money, parent's big bank accounts and stars in their eyes to the "big city"

I'm a transplant myself. My first contact with natives was when I interned at a major investment bank. My colleagues and bosses completely treated me like air. It was unbearable. But the pay was good and the other interns were other transplants who were cool to hang out with. We had a blast.

Since graduation, I stayed in Manhattan. Life is rough at times, but I try to think positive all the time. I've met some awesome natives, but I have to say my friends are still mostly transplants. Hahaha!

Ditto, I've experienced this myself having worked in Manhattan as a native for half my life. I've worked on Wall Street, in midtown and in a variety of industries and it seems that transplants like to have a "know it all" attitude once they get acclimated to the city. I loved it when a co-worker who moved here from North Carolina would jabber on about how wonderful some of the drinks in some crappy pub were, and how expensive everything seemed to be..until I politely informed him the pub he was frequenting was a whole in the wall that overcharged him for a simple beer and that he was going to the wrong places. There are plenty of little unknown bars, clubs were it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg for drinks or to have a good time..Of course, let the transplants fork over all their money because they think only the best restaurants/bars/stores, etc are only in the touristy sections or places that paid a fortune to advertise in the New Yorker, The Observer, NY Post, etc!

I think this thread was created from the original post to cause resentment.

Because most of you are the outcast of your hometowns who feel as though you become something by coming to ny. Ny'ers don't care that you're here and the people in your hometown will just think you moved. We have a plethora of bs actors, playwrights, vegans, writers, and bands. It's been going on for years. Enough is enough already. You guys have already changed manhattan and are now spreading to the outer boroughs. What amazes me is that none of these people think they become interesting until they move to ny. Move to ny,buy an old bike and ride it around the hood looking different. How moronic.
