I can tell you as a former conductor that the cabs aren't bulletproof at all. From where do you get your information? The whole body of the train is nothing more than a thin sheet of metal.
As to bringing weapons on the subway, yeah, it's illegal. But for some strange reason (I'm sure I'll never understand why) there seems to be a gap between laws and their enforcement.
Unless you were just trying to be sarcastic, in which case you failed (but only by a few points!)
The NYC Transit forum , some of the newer trains have bullet proof cabs and some Amtrak trains do aswell..... And the NYPD / MTAPD seem to be focusing on the wrong things these days....its not Terriosm they should be protecting the public from its the public that needs protecting from the public....

As always, money is the issue. Big corporations don't benefit at all from the well-being of the people. They do, however, benefit from constant fear-mongering and senseless activism. There hasn't been a terrorist attack on American soil in 10 years. Yet, they lead you to believe that you're in constant danger. The real danger, the one that is never mentioned, is your neighbor. But they don't care about that because protecting you from him would mean spending money instead of making money. Sad but true.
did they say "motorman" and really mean "conductor"? It wouldn't be the first time some know-nothing reporter flubbed a detail like that.
Well, you don't expect them to get ALL the details right, do you?
