Default Internet serivce provider

I am new in the city and look for some affordable internet connection?
any suggestion for me, i am in the lower east side of Manhattan.

Verizon's plan (24.99) seems to be attractive, but it costs a hundred buck for the installation ...that's not unacceptable for me.

are others ISP charging so much for that?

thx

I recommend the FIOS triple play for about $90 plus tax if your building is wired for it especially if you can get a 2 year guaranteed rate...haggle.

That $24.99 from Verizon sounds like DSL. Be warned it is not a very fast connection (.75 Mbps most likely...possible 1.5 Mbps) and it is completely unsuitable for movie streaming.

Who provides your TV cable?

I've got RCN and have been quite pleased with them. I pay $25 a month for 15Mbps down and (I think) 5 Mbps up, plus $5 a month for the modem rental. If you have your own cable modem then you don't need to bother with that.

I think I'm grandfathered into their old price, and it's now $10 more, so $35 a month, which is still pretty good. I saw a flyer in my apartment the other day about bundling your internet and cable TV with them for like $65, which sounds pretty good considering so many people don't need a landline phone anymore. Personally I just pay $8 a month to Netflix and Hulu and have more television shows/movies than I could ever watch.
