is there a bacharach here? I picked up 2 suits, 2 shirts and a tie back in michigan for 500. They're usually doing some buy one get one sales and their stuff is usually pretty good quality.

I am with BMWGuy here. I have NEVER had a suit altered that looked in any way decent. I am large chested and shouldered and they always come with IMMENSE fat-man pants with a fly that goes halfway to my knee. The tailors SAY they can take the pants in but they, in fact, CANNOT.
Separates allow you to get precisely fitting pants to go with a precisely fitting jacket.
And the separates are usually cheaper.

Most major department stores sell separates or used to (I haven't been in the suit market for quite a while.) Your choices of fabric might be small but a good fit makes up for a LOT.

200 bucks for a suit is going to look ass, no matter what kind of sale you get.

Smile Amazing customer service

I purchased a suit and had alterations done. When I came in to pick it up a gentleman came up to my wife and I and said "You were here 3 days ago and bought a suit. Right?" We confirmed and he said that he had tried to call us and let us know of their sale that we did not notice "buy 1 suit get 2 free". We were surprised at that as the Nautica suit was a good deal at mid $100's, but mainly surprised that he recognized us and had tried to contact us. He gave us the details and said to find 2 more suits and then got the wonderful assistant manager to return our suit so we could then do the "buy 1 suit get 2 free". Amazing customer service from the store manager named David
