I imagine that this is some sort of "program". A private landlord woudl love small family in a 2 bedroom vs 6 people crammed into a 2 bedroom. A government program tries to put as many ppl as possible inthe apartment, hence, 1.5 people do not need a 2 bedroom.
OP, if you go through private landlords, you will be albe to rent whateer you can afford. take the rent and multiply it by 40. if your yearly salary is more than that, most landlords will rent to you.

No reason to get sarcastic. What you are saying makes no sense.
First you talk about apartment lotteries, then you say you are not using any subsidy, then you say "oh, but they won't let me rent b/c they think my son doesn't deserve a bedroom yet"
What you are saying doesn't make any sense. So now we have to fish if we want to help you.
I mean, look at what you type. "I make a good living" "i was on the verge of having to live in a shelter" "I was filling out apartment lotteries" "I am not using any subsidies".
If you don't know what you are talking about, how can we help you?

I don't think private housing uses any kind of a lottery as there is no entitlement. first come (who can pay) gets the apartment. That is why I think she is looking at some sort of publicly funded/subsidized apartment complex. It does not matter if they go through a private management company-- the government is the one helping to pay the rent.

I was on the verge of being homeless becase the person I was living with up and told me I had a month to leave, because she was moving out as well. Had nothing to do with my money situation.
I never said I wasn't looking at subsidized lottery apartments. I said I got the same response from then AND from regular apartments.

The OP's post makes little sense unless she's ONLY looking at lottery programs, subsidized housing and regulated apartments. Private landlords don't come back with "you dont qualify based on family size" (being too small for the apartment!!). They check your income and credit history, thats how you "qualify". In fact the very use of the word "qualify" by the OP suggests that the OP is only talking about lottery programs/subsidized housing.

You got regular Landlords saying you don't qualify based on family size being too small for the apartment?

This whole thread makes no sense whatsoever. Private landlords do not qualify you to have a certain number of bedrooms based on the age of your child.
Maybe the landlord who suggested a studio did so because he looked at your income and did the math to see that you couldn't afford his market rate 2 bedroom. I think I remember you from the food stamp thread. I have no idea how little money you have to make to qualify for food stamps but I didn't think you could make a "very good living" and qualify for food stamps and at the same time have a high enough income to rent a 2 bedroom apartment at market rent?
Something doesn't add up.
