How can we afford these new projects with the MTA on the path to bankruptcy?

If this is the reason who is responsible?

The persons responsible are the Govenors of NY and NJ, and the apathetic and ignorant peoples of both states. Year after year the corruption and incompetence continues. Government run amuck, and the people do nothing.

Oh, and I love the way, paying cash is penalized, not only with longer lines at the toll both, but also cash payers must pay more. Only in a Socialist state.

I should bring suit against the MTA to recover the earned interest on the money deposited and held in my EZpass account.

A total Socialist agency.

I love the way, they finally get a competent executive to run the MTA; and he summarily leaves for a job paying a real salary, ten times what he earned with the MTA. Therein lies one part of the issue, the public sphere cannot attract competent executive; and politics is more important than competence.

Ahem, I'm a hyper-capitalist myself, but I don't think the cash requirement is a particularly "Socialistic" practice. But let's assume that it is. The nice thing about a free country like America is that you can choose not to participate. So, don't ride the subway! And if you complain that you have no alternative, remember what that arch-capitalist William Vanderbilt said in the 1860s, "the public be damned".

I wish there was a way to have some kind of pay as you go system. Similar to the railroads, charge by the distance travel and not some stupid flat rate. I dont see why i should be paying an increase fare for subways or buses that i will never use

A lot of the money for those projects is federal money. It's just increased operating costs (the wages are going up, as are other expenses like fuel). That, plus the fact that Albany keeps cutting money from the MTA, so they take it out on us.

NJ has nothing to do with the MTA , only NY does.....Paying cash clogs lanes and this policy can be found in more Democratic countries..... E-Tolling is the future , so time to get with it , or be left behind.

To answer the title question of your thread: NO. These projects were budgeted years ago, and have absolutely nothing to do with fare increases. Blame for those go to Albany, where our wonderful State is the only entity having any power over MTA.
