Having hopes to move to CA soon, I was shook up by this tremor ONLY because it is so unusual to have happened here. NYC is definitely not somewhere where you would expect for that to happen, so it was unsettling.

The mans an idiot.
For what it's worth, my son was in the basement and didn't feel a thing but I was on ground level and felt it. Maybe it does depend on location or how strong the building is.

In my building (midtown Manhattan) people who were in the interior/center of the building said they didn't feel anything, but those of us near the windows did.

Do animals behave abnormally yesterday? I am not a pet owner. How were your dogs, cats, or birds doing before and right after the quake?

My dogs and the neighborhood dogs were all barking at the same time which is highly unusual, but I can't remember if they started barking before I felt the quake or if it was during the quake.
Come to think of it, my dogs were acting out of character yesterday right before it happened. I keep them in the kitchen when I'm upstairs and they're fine with that. They won't leave the kitchen unless I tell them we're going out even when I leave the gate open, but yesterday everytime I opened the gate to leave the kitchen they all jumped up and tried to come out with me. One of them even snuck in between my legs when I opened the gate and almost tripped me.
After it was over they were all back to normal.

There was an earthquake here in NYC last year around this time too......now again this year.
We are not used to having earthquakes here and I hope we never have a serious one......with all of these tall buildings will be a real disaster!
There needs to be some kind of public readiness program put in place here in NYC for earthquakes......this way people will be prepared if a major earthquake ever happens here. Could end up being a real life saver!

If there is a 'real" earthquake, we here in NY are all going to die. We don't stand a chance.

Sadly, you may be right. Even IF we had advance warning, traffic is horrible on a normal day. I can only imagine how bad it would be if everyone were trying to evacuate at the same time and that's if the bridges and tunnels were still operational.
