There was never a time when I didn't love New York. However, I find the pseudo-religious ritual that gets observed every September 11 (with the obligatory teary-eyed Reading of the Names) bordering on disgusting. And this year, being the tenth anniversary--someone will have to tell me where the magical power of 10 came from--I suspect it will be even worse than last year or the year before. I know it isn't politically correct to say such things, but I am not a fan of all the public hand-wringing.

There's just something about even number anniversaries, I guess. I'm hoping now that it's been a decade, the memorial is done, and 1 WTC is soaring in the sky making the site look less scarred and barren, things will calm down somewhat. People need to heal and having that enormous hole in the site didn't help.

It will always be a gravesite for many of us. That will never change.

Those "I heart" t-shirts are tacky. I'd never be caught dead in one. Most "rep your city" paraphernalia is a little overboard, dorky or off-putting.
