Me, I think OWS is supporting a generally legitimate cause but with massive shortsightedness and a total lack of intellectual foundations.
You are totally right. Obama got into office with great promise and turned out to be a turncoat, a sellout. The Republicans are just as bad. Both parties are against the people and pro corporations, pro financial industry.

the government is the real enemy. you cant compare the public sector "middle class" to the private sector middle class. the public sector just wants to take more and more away from the private sector. trying to protect the public sector middle class is in opposition to the private sector middle class.

Yes. Libertarians would eliminate government regulators, meaning our kids would grow up with polluted air and water that gave them cancer and other diseases. They would eliminate public schools, libraries, public payment for law enforcement and fire departments. Real, real cool, these Libertarians. NOT!

cool? libertarians arent interested in being cool. they are interested in minimizing the role of government in our lives.

The thing about you and other OWS supporters is this: You think that anyone who disagrees with you is against change. Quite the contrary. I know big banks and the government screwed many, many citizens. However, doing what OWS is doing is NOT going to make any change whatsoever.

AV, please, tell me (and others) what is YOUR solution? Since you are (or claim to be) one of the OWS group, what is the solution?
How about re-instituting Glass Steagall and mandating that all investments of Congress people be put in a blind trust, for starters????

Oh, and no donations to run for office. For the privilege of using the public airwaves, let the media donate ad time. The government can fund the rest. We need a way to fund elections that yanks the campaigns away from corporate and private contributions to limit corruption.

And what just have public services turned to the free market? If my house gets robbed I have to pay to call the police? If my house is on fire I can only get help if I can pay a private company? Sound more like fascism to me.

are you using goldengrain's post as if its the platform of the libertarian party? he has no idea what he is talking about and neither do you. firstly, you already pay for police and fire. secondly, nobody is saying that your scenario is how it would ever play out. thirdly, how does it sound like fascism to you???? you are just saying silly garbage to sound dramatic, even you know that what you are saying is ridiculous.

He is Bush 'lite' in my opinion.
And, yes, that is precisely what he is doing now. He is totally self serving and obviously without conscience.

Libertarians would have even more power given to the very wealthy. They are good at poking holes in the system, but their substitution would bring us back to feudal days. I could see sweat shops in which people died on the job and child labor coming back. I like the things that Paul points out as wrong with our government, but look into what they wish to replace it with - a nightmare for the poor and middle class.

As I recollect, this was one huge concern about Ayn Rand and her Libertarian Party while she was alive.
