I am planning on moving back to NY with a friend. Our apartment budget is $1,500 per month, we've found some in the Far Rockaway and Bronx area. I was wondering what is the average amount you pay for water, gas, and electricity?

Water and gas will likely be included in your rent. As far as electricity goes, in the last 12 months, I've had a high of $110 and a low of $75 in my one bedroom apartment.

I live in Astoria and my bill is usually $40-$50. Rarely if ever does it go above $50, except maybe when I use air conditioning. I have a 1 bedroom apartment to myself.

Make sure that the heating is covered under the terms of the lease. I know a few people who have electric heat, and their electric bill can get quite high in the winter.

Cooking gas should be about $20 per month.

Stop spouting off on crap you know nothing about.

My friends who have a GREAT deal on a one-bedroom rent-stablized apt in Queens ($880 a month, two blocks from the train; 20 min to midtown) have to pay electric heat. They are not "transplants" that you love to scorn and they have lived in this apartment for at least 8 years.

Would you say you are representative of a "NY native"? If so, natives really need to get a clue.
