What is the difference between the East Village and LES? Not historically, but currently. It seems they are both similar, but the village has more of that hippy, grungy feel to it. LES has that also, but not to the same extent. Would that be a good way to describe it?
Ethnically LES is more Latino. It's a working class/poor area with acres of projects. More families than businesses. Not the best real estate with the M line, the funky East River, the highway etc. I found that I couldn't get a cab to stop at my old apt on Pitt st. Too dangerous for them I guess. I had to walk to Houston and A to have a fighting chance. Not much subway coverage either. I found the East Village has an Eastern European ethnicity and a number of artists, lower and middle class. Way more clubs, boutiques, theaters, etc. LOTs of starving artists.
This thread could go both ways.
I wanna watch.
Lets see.....
East Village....lower east side{ hell yeah I spelled it out for those reading and wondering what LES meant}[u tourist you]...
Are you attempting to say there are none left? The folks I know are living with a bunch of roommates in legal and not so legally divided spaces. Hence the "starving" part. I know starving artists throughout Manhattan in less than ideal housing, but they are there! Did you think there were none left?
I thought the "starving" (and let's substitute "starving" with "pretentious" to more accurately descibe these people) were all in Bushwick ruining Brooklyn by pricing out poor people?

You said there are "LOTS".
I say that those days are long gone. And I am not attempting to say that. I am just saying it.
