I am planning a trip to New York City and Brooklyn October 6th to October 7th. I have never been to either before and I need to know what to do with my car, as I'm driving out to the region but don't want to drive in the city itself. I am staying at a hotel out on Long Island.
I want to take bussess through NYC rather than the subway. I might do the same thing in Brooklyn. My questions are:
1. Do the bus stations have parking lots? If not, how do I get to the bus station?
2. How much time generally passes from when one bus leaves a stop to when the next one arrives?
3. How do I know what route a bus is going to take so I can pick the right one?
4. If I have to take a cab from my hotel to the bus station, how much does a cab normally cost? Is taking a cab safe when you don't know who the cab driver is?
5. Is Brooklyn (like a around the Park Slope area) just as congested and expensive as Manhattan? If it's not I would prefer to drive myself around Brooklyn but take the bus into Manhattan.
Public transportation is the easiest/fastest way to get around. If you can, take the LIRR (some stations have parking) and leave your car behind.
