"People of color" will never join the downtown demonstrations because they have more sense and intelligence than the white hipsters kids and ageing hippies in Zuccoti Park.

The late great socialist Irving Howe was once lambasted by a youthful radical in the sixties for "not being radical enough." Irving replied: 20 years from now, I'll still be a socialist. You, you'll be a dentist in Scarsdale."

Similarly, those white kids downtown, 3 years from now, will beL yoga instructors in Grosse Pointe, Michigan; software developers in Palo Alto, California; and cupcake store owners in Philadelphia, PA.

Believe it or not, most of the demonstrators and protesters are transplants to nyc. Some of these transplants come from areas where the burbs and boonies collected alot of debt and at the sametime these newbies wanna live in 2000 dollar apt which is 4x more than your dads mortgage in wisconnituckota. No new yorker has not rise to the occasion to protest the on going economic crisis especially since so many new yorkers work in finance, insurance ans real estate.

Quite likely three years from now those jobs will no longer be available in the United States and the kids will be unemployed and Mitt Romney will be looking at a LARGER demonstration while facing an "official" unemployment rate of 20% and borrowing more money to give to banks.

And the major media will STILL be ignoring the demonstrations while sending staffs of reporters to cover economic upheaval in UGANDA! If you want good coverage look to the news of other countries...I found a good article in a New Zealand Paper.

They are publishing their own paper called THE OCCUPIED WALL STREET JOURNAL. Grab a copy; it's pretty interesting and the first issue will probably become a collector's item.

700 were arrested Saturday so the handful is growing.

P.S. There are a LOT of blacks demonstrating...not all have given up hope even if the doof in the White House has sold out.

I fully support all of these demonstrators..and we all should. They are making a statement about what the true cause for this global economic meltdown was..and trying to educate everyone into understanding why we are all in this predicament: INVESTMENT BANKS AND WALL ST. Plain and simple.

They are fighting for the America we all were promised AND HAD, until it was hijacked by the crooks of Wall St and sold off to "investors" (speculators) for profit...along with our jobs and way of life. We should be supporting their efforts, as they are fighting for YOU AND ME AND OUR CHILDREN, and not protecting Corporations and Wall St.

Forget about race and color..seriously....this is how we get divided and easily conquered. We are too busy complaining about the black man while the corporations are stealing our entire livelihoods!

You obviously haven't been down to Zuccoti Park.

I was there yesterday and there were plenty of " people of color" as well as senior citizens, middle aged people and young veterans. And a lot of the NYC cops and firemen around the perimeter were a lot more sympathetic than Fox News might lead you to believe.A lot of them realize that it's not just "someone else's kids" whose futures have been stolen but their own kid's futures as well.

Shrug it off as "just a bunch of hipsters" if you want but that's exactly what older people did at the beginning of the Vietnam anti war movement.Just a bunch of hippies and college students ....until it grew into a truly mass movement with millions marching.Eventually they could not be shrugged off or ignored.

Don't underestimate the potential power of millions and millions of unemployed people who feel like they have nothing to lose and no future with things continuing the way they are right now.

I think people forgot that these type of demonstrations can bear fruit. Its stuff like this --scattered apparently uncoordinated leaderless protests that led to the beginning of the Tea Party. Remember how everyone made fun of that early on? And now those "silly" protests with people dressing up like Colonial soldiers with wigs and muskets are one of the most powerful forces in U.S. politics.

The same can be true at this end of the political spectrum. These people could become the vanguard of a movement that finally stands up to the moneyed interets screwing this country. The begining of a real movoement rarely starts off looking pretty. But it can start off and gain steam. I hope this one does.

WHAT!?!?! Are you kidding me!??!?!? I've never heard such nonsense!

A sprinkling of "people of color" like raisins on a cake, is just like the 2000 Republican convention, which made sure to highlight the Blacks and Latinos on stage, while the overwhelming majority of the delegates were Whites.

I'm sorry? What were we all "promised"? As far as I was aware it was "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Where in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution does it promise us all a house with a white picket fence? The American Dream promotes the theme that if you work hard, educate yourself, create a savings account - some day you will be able to afford a home within your means, provide for your family, and rest assured that your children will do better than you. Owning your own home is an OPPORTUNITY within the American Dream; not a RIGHT.

As with the theory of Survival of the Fittest, if you are making $30,000 a year and truly believe that you can afford a house that is selling for over $600k, then frankly, you have a problem. Throw in an adjustable rate mortgage, and I might as well hand you the noose now. Did slimy real estate agents and extremely shady mortgage brokers talk fast and loose? Sure they did. But that's where personal responsibility comes in. I have little to no sympathy for anyone aged over 20 who still believes in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and Mortgage Brokers. If you signed the paper, you doomed yourself and your family. Own up.

As for the collapse of the banks - the awful thing is that THEY apparently believed in the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and the ability of people on a low income to meet monthly mortgage payments. They screwed themselves too with their heavy leveraging of the derivatives and swap markets where the underlying collateral WAS these doomed mortgage documents. I mean seriously, it's like thinking you could put your old Schwinn bike up as collateral for a million dollar house. The banks and mortgage companies got caught up in the frenzy and I wasn't shedding a tear for them either.

But how was all this achieved? You can look no further than Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. That's right. Both democrats. And both chief architects of our financial doom. You can read a nice article about it here from a British newspaper. And just for purposes of full disclosure - I've been a democrat my entire life.

Dominic Lawson: Democrat fingerprints are all over the financial crisis - Dominic Lawson, Commentators - The Independent

Now we all know what the government did next. TARP me up, Scotty! Our government stepped in and rescued the banks. Billions of dollars went out of the Treasury based on an application form the banks were required to fill out. Must have been some application form, huh? Nope. Two pages. Yes, that's right. To receive BILLIONS of dollars, two pages. I've attached it here.

Bespoke Investment Group: Want Some TARP Money? Sign Here!

And what of the under-water home owners? Yeah. Not so much. We had the Obama Plan that was the biggest waste of time and money ever created. Did anyone attempt to complete that application form? You had to provide DETAILED (documents required) earnings, 2 years of prior tax returns, all documentation on financial holdings - the list went on. And after submitting, the wait went on. Not like the banks who received their money immediately. Home owners went into limbo for up to 13 months before a good number of them went into foreclosure.

So do I have a problem with the protesters? Kind of. To me, they are like Rebels Without a Clue. If they focused their well-deserved angst on Washington, I would almost be willing to join them. But when they bus in their group from the likes of Seattle, California, Colorado and the back-waters of the land, as a New Yorker, it pisses me off. It also bothers me that when they DO appear on camera, they can barely string an intelligent thought together. Yeesh!! At least be freaking educated about your cause.

Cokatie....stop politicizing this..it isn't about Repbs vs Democrat..there is enough blame for everyone. It is really about the corporations vs the people...and what used to be "Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" is now, "Slow Death, Debt enslavement, and Misery".

We must fight for everything we had...we did it back then..and we will do it again!
