I've just moved to NYC from South Carolina, not by choice. . . but my family relocated here. I am 23, still in college, trying to transition as far as transferring school in the Fall. Meanwhile, I am desperately looking for work because being home all day while the rest of my family is working is killing me. I've done numerous online applications at places like Gap, T-Mobile, & etc. this week so I am still waiting to see what the outcome will be. Any suggestions or advice you guys can give as far as job hunting goes?

Go around Forest Hills and look at boutiques/shops with "help wanted" signs. Maybe the restaurants and bars in Astoria and Long Island City also. They don't advertise online.

Other establishments that hire young people are Apple stores, Think Coffee, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods. Ask around about establishments in the hip parts of Brooklyn.

missambitions,

Just show up when you apply or are invited for an interview. You have no choice but to be in NYC anyway whether you're employed or not. Try to look presentable and professional regardless of what your natural looks are. Avoild looking sloppy and lackadaisical.
