Default Seeking neighborhood info, specific address BX

Hello,

I have lived in NYC for my whole life but have had very little exposure to the Bronx. My wife and I are looking to buy an apartment right now and need information on a particular address. The building is at 3123 Bailey Ave in zip 10463. I drove to the building this evening to get a feel for the area and it seemed OK, with very little foot traffic (it is raining here, though). It is a short walk to the 231 st 1 subway station. Here is what I'd like to know:

How is the ride on the subway and how does it change into the evening?

How is safety on that block, in the area and between the subway and the building?

What are peoples thoughts on the area now, past and future?

How is crime and what are some of the more common crimes?

I was looking at some demographics and there are seemingly no great big red flags. Rent vs. own is a little high at 73% and the percent of families below the poverty line is a little high at 15%. Median income is about $49K. Really my biggest concerns are crime and where the area will go in the next 5 years.

Thanks in advance for your replies!!

I live right up the hill from Bailey Avenue. The area is a relatively safe, and if you're Irish you'll enjoy some of the bars on 231st. The Irish population is still significant in the northern tip of Bailey Avenue. The future looks decent, especially if Van Cortlandt Village continues to attract folks from Manhattan as strongly as it has in the last three years. Can't tell you much about the subway ride at night, but I can let you know it's one of the cleanest stations I've seen in New York.

I live on 252 street and broadway which is about a 20-25 minute walk from the address you mention. I have always felt safe on the subway which probably gets crowded coming back up in the evenings. be careful of the train being empty at night because some things happen mostly robberies of sleeping passengers. Common crimes include stick ups on the step streets late at night or in the early AM hours. But it's far safer than other areas of the bronx. The precinct is one of the safest in the bronx

Hi, I live in this building. I take the 1 everyday to work in midtown. it is the most frequent train I think. I do not take it home at night, but I do not see why there would be a problem. I have walked the blocks between the subway and the building and they are fine. I never feel unsafe. I feel like the area has great potential. i am a professional that works in midtown and would not have moved here had it not felt safe and decent. The building is very quiet and clean. As far as crime goes, my car was broken into a few months ago, but I take some blame as I left some valuable items in plain view and created too much temptation. If you have a car, be prepared for torture however. parking will be a horror. invest in a garage, trust me! what do you mean by demogragraphic red flags? if you explain, then maybe I can address it.

If you have a wife, head a couple of blocks north to Van Cortlandt Village
