Would Archie Bunker survive in Queens today? (New York, Garden City: school, camps)

Is there anyone like Archie Bunker left in Queens? White, Blue Collar, Working Class, Lower income but surviving on one income. With old fashioned morals and ideas. Have you seen an Archie in Queens recenly?

Maybe the closest thing would be some old school Mics living over in Woodside. Was Archie Bunker supposed to be Irish though, or was he a WASP? I dont' think there are too many blue-collar WASPs living in NYC anymore. I think WASPs only make up 3-5% of the population of the city nowadays.

If we had Archie Bunkers today the NYC area would not be the 3rd world dump it had become.

I walked down Myrtle ave in Ridgewood (where I lived in the 70's) this spring for BLOCKS and could not hear one person speaking Engish.
Lots of young Anglo girls pushing multi-racial babys in strollers, I almost threw up !!!

LOL, Joe L is probably the funniest poster on the New York forum. I wander here from the Chicago forum all the time to read great posts by such animated, opinionated writers such as Joe L, Hustla718, etc. They're great because they "tell it as it is", don't give a flying f*ck about political correctness (especially Joe L), and they're dead serious when they say it too. I don't think they're intentionally trying to be funny, lol. Joe L reminds me of that classic old school New York white guy (who could be either of Italian or Irish descent, but probably Italian), who yearns for things the way they once were, but can't find it in NY any more because of the "3rd world influx" from places like Iran, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, and God knows where else. If JFK Airport can accept that country's flights, their people are representin' in New York lol. Whenever I visit the NYC metro area I can still spot these classic Joe L types working classic jobs such as the local mechanic or plumber (spotted some of them at a corporate building in Westbury, NY out in L.I.), or perhaps the burly conductor on the LIRR or Metro-North train shuttling people back & forth between Manhattan & the surrounding counties. Oh and I bet they're on the NYPD and police forces for the surrounding municipalities as well.

Well, everyone except for the Native Americans are originally from somewhere else. I don't think all the Italians, Jews, Germans, and Poles who came here from the Old Country all spoke English when they arrived. Was a time when they were considered the scourge of the earth, too.

I think you get a kick out of Hustla because he doesn't present his fellow minorities in a positive light. What's more thrilling than to hear it straight from the horses' mouth? Would be a different story if he moved next door to you though, I'll betcha.

Regarding Italians and language, I've been told that practically all Made in America(TM) Italians don't know the Italian language because during WWII when Mussolini was in power, many 1st and 2nd Italian Americans decided, or were forced, to drop their cultural ways and assimilate completely to the US because of what what happening to the Japanese in the west coast. They didn't want to pass by as the enemy and end up in internment camps, so any connection to the homeland was denied in public.

Bunker could barely tolerate Queens in the early 70s when it was mostly white. Hell, he did not care for other whites very much (Jews, Armenians, Irish, Italians, etc).

So I doubt very much ole Archie could tolerate Queens circa 2007. He and George Jefferson most likely would have swallowed their collective pride and fled to New Jersey long ago.
