One of the oldest cultures in history, I'm not only a fan of it, but it means alot in my life. The reason that I question about it .is the time that I havent seen any of them in NY. I mean the real original Indian . I also looking for souvenirs related to that culture. Does anybody know somthing about it?

Do you mean Indian as South Asian Indian or Native American Indian, because the South Asian community is alive and well here especially in queens as for Native American culture nah it does not really exist here at all.

Yea. In queens? But American natives are no longer around??I believe their should be at least a small amount. So there's no community in NY. I wonder if theres any traditional days for them ?. Like sometimes a parade or somthing close to it.

I also thought that the OP meant South Asians and was puzzled by the question. I guess the fact that we were thrown off is an indication that, yes, Native American culture is dead in the New York area.

I believe I've read that the Indians didn't really live on Manhattan, but came to the island to hunt and fish/harvest oysters. They sold the land to the Dutch.

There is a museum of the American Indian at the foot of Broadway. They would have information and probably souvenirs.

Have you been to a CASINO lately? Bring heap wampum.

And then stop on Lexington for a Curry!

(Doorman neighbor of mine whenever he heard the word Indian he would ask, "Feathers or saris?"

There's a pow wow at the Queens Farm Musuem in July Queens County Farm Museum (scroll down to July) but I am not sure if they have to import their Indians from somewhere else!
