What would be a good place for a single woman in her late forties to go on a Saturday night just to have a drink, listen to some live music, people watch, etc.? Somewhere with a cool vibe, possibly blues or jazz club or classy lounge with interesting crowd over 40 . . . .

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the Metropolitan museum of art has a wine service (tables) on the second floor balcony with views looking down onto the main lobby. I'm not sure which hours this is open, but it's very sophisticated, romantic, artsy, and great for people watching. The Met's website should have more info on what hours they have the wine tables out.

Default Dizzy's Place

You can look it up - it's at lincoln center. They have a huge window behind the stage so you see a view of the city while the performers play. and they don't keep bothering you to buy drinks (which happens at some other jazz clubs).

take me too :P

Get the Village Voice newspaper, there are lots of ads for many clubs, bars, and what have you.

Try the VILLAGE VANGUARD, Seventh Ave a couple blocks North of Sheridan Square.
The Village Vanguard

Check out THE BLUE NOTE on West Fourth in the Village and LE POISSON ROUGE at 158 Bleeker.

Those three could be just what you are looking for without breaking the bank.

For super chi-chi $$$ cabaret uptown there's the St.Regis and Sherry Netherland bar-dining rooms where someone semi-famous is always crooning.
