I've seen a lot of local farmers selling free range organic turkey/duck/geese/chicken at the Union Square Farmer's market. Check it out on a Saturday, that's when most of the vendors are around. You may want to talk to a few of them and find out if you need to reserve a turkey in advance. They may have a limited supply for the Thanksgiving Day window.
but you think it will be worth? this is something that people dont understand ,theres a lot of contamination on food.recently there was a issue with a cantalope fruit, that was poisoning a lot of people, turky ,chicken are more dangerous with the salmonelle virus,we need a very good source of market ,i beleive NY should get strick with that. what time they open??

I think it's worth giving it a try if you're unhappy with the quality of turkey at your supermarket and don't mind spending more for a quality, local, organic bird that has been pampered all its life on a small family farm.

Also, the market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday- and each day there's different vendors. Check out the map so see who is there which days. IF memory serves there's a turkey farm vendor there on Fridays, but they have so many farmers there's bound to be someone selling poultry every day the market is open.
Oh, and Terhune Orchards sells these amazing apple pies, $5 for a small one if you want to try 'em out- they had the dean of pastry at the CIA train their kitchen staff on making wickedly addictive pies that aren't too sweet. Their apples rock the house, too. Why bake an apple pie for thanksgiving when you can get one from Terhune
Well, the farmer's market opens in roughly 6.5 hours, and then you can nosh on an apple pie. Terhune is there on Wednesdays, and so are the turkey farmers (Di Paola Turkey) - I cheated and checked the map (they're there Wednesdays and Fridays).
Why? It all depends where and somebody responsible using it. they say they are ilegal but they don't stop making them!!!
