Should a garbage man, a city clerk, an MTA worker, have 'better' than a white collar worker competing (and succeding) in the employment market? Should they have more than a privately employed blue collar worker doing equivalent work?

In the real world, workers DO NOT live better than their bosses!
You're complaining about something not being fair? If the OP were instead complaining about the wealthy bankers and CEO's living on 5th ave who received bonuses while their institutions received bailouts you'd be the first person to say "well, life isn't fair." So, we should all tolerate the unfair advantages that the wealthy have, but never tolerate the few advantages that poor people have.

Stop focusing on what other people have and start using your Tea Party philosophies to take responsibility for your life and get all the things those wealthy section 8 people have that you don't. That should be working for you right? By now, you should be living on a yacht with all the ranting you do and the critique of the substandard values of others.

Thank you Barkomatic..talk about missplaced anger. And his mentality has nothing to do with the possibility that he may or may not apply for benefits he is rightly entitled to. If he gets injured and is disabled, will he be forgoing those benefits? The answer is NO....and drawing on those benefits is OK...that's the whole point of being a 1st world nation and not a 3rd world country where people just die on the streets because nobody cares.

People tend to quickly change their tune when life's unfortunate events happen to them. And then they are happy for all those entitlements this young fellow is poo-pooing. Things happen..the question is..would you rather live like India, where people live on the streets, die on the streets, no safety nets of any kind and nobody cares? If so...you are saying that only because nothing has happened to you...YET.

I'm with the OP, the govts. need to stop all these freebies. It's outrageous.

The answer is not to figure out a way to scam the system like these scums, lets figure out how to cut em off!!

I'm sick of being apart of the working poor, while lazy dependent people collect everyone free.

At least the wall street CEOs work for those bogus bonuses. There's nothing worse than seeing someone sit aroundon their butts and still have.

The government is doing a disservice to these hand-out receipiants as the underlying issue still exist and has never been address. Instead of the government teaching these welfare receiptants to fish, the government GIVES them fish. So as the saying goes...teach a man how to fish and he will never go hungry! I'll let that saying marinate for a bit for all the SOCIALIST and pro-welfare people on this board.

I have a dear friend, a widow in NJ, who is living on a truly destitue level of Social Security. Her children both kick in the difference so she can continue LIVING. Four years ago she applied for Section 8 to pay part of her rent (which is double her SS) and after two years she got a letter: she is on the LIST for a voucher. That was 2 years ago and she is still "IS ON THE LIST," and that is alll she can find out. It is likely she will be dead before she gets a voucher.

So those who think these Section 8 vouchers are readily available had best think again.

To the OP: since the projects have such nice parking lots and you don't then perhaps the government should tear down YOUR building instead?
Since you have such disdain for the poor, I DO hope karma blesses you with a period of true hardship so you can learn a bit more about the world in which you live and shake you out of your tunnel vision. Perhpas then a bit of empathy will get through your fascist, elitist armor.

Something nauseating about screeds directed against " those awful poor." At least "let them eat cake" was attributed to the mutterings of a truly stupid woman ans stupidity is SOMETHING of an excuse.

Oh, BTW, the Duncan Projects, and Curries Woods were FAR better built than either Newport or ANY of the glass towers in Downtown Jersey City.

I have to say that somehow i sympathize with the op opinion.....This is been discussed here many times and always same results....a lot of different opinions and then gets closed....

Im my opinion , and this is just my opinion: section 8, Food stamps or any other known government program were created with good intention and for good ,but unfortunately didn't work out that way...

Should they exist?..my answer is yes BUT, just for a period, unless you are disabled. If you are going through hardship is fine to get you a voucher for say 2-5 years, during this time you should find ways to better yourself with help from those agencies. After that period you should get automatically out of the system...Forever!!!...

In those projects you find generations living in there and passing on to their kids, grand and great grand kids.....whats up with that?

It already been proven that teaching somebody to fish is better than giving a fish!.

and for those answering with "Karma", or " what if u were one of those less fortunate" etc. i can tell you that i been there and believe there are some good and legit ones in the system but when there are more rotten apples than good in the bag, you better off throwing the whole bag away.

Projects only breeds two things : Sports and rappers....And we all could live without them!

As previously said, government subsidy and unions goes hand to hand and should both be eliminated or minimized for good!

How about a different way of looking at the issues.
Q: Into WHOSE pockets does FOOD STAMP money go?
A: Farmers, Big Agribusiness, Food Chains, Transportation system...the "poor" don't see a dime.

Q: Into whose pockets does ALL the Section 8 money go?
A: LANDLORDS... tenants don't see a nickel.

and take it further
Q: Into whose pockets does Medicaid and Medicare money flow?
A: Into the pockets of Doctors, Nurses, Hospitals, Drug Manufacturing conglomerates, and Insurance Companies...patient's don't see a penny.

So all these schemes accomplish one thing. They transfer money from the taxpayers to the rich.

So never whine about Section 8, it keeps landlords rich otherwise the system would not be allowed to exist.
