Yea I totally understand. I knew the reality was 3, maybe 4 in one apartment, which is why I was looking here to see if 5+ could be a reality. I know it looks bad having a bunch of guys fresh out of college there, but in reality we are all going to be working 90+ hours a week with little time actually in the apartment. Paying rent won't be an issue, but I see how it can certainly be a hassle. Would probably just have one person on the hook for the entirety of rent each month, though that could be just as hard.

Thanks for the input.

Also, I believe income would be something like 80x the monthly rent. Would this give us any leverage (perhaps not the right word)? I've heard 40x is standard?

40x is the average for one person.
The LL will want everyone to make 40x their portion of rent.

I don't know why someone making decent money would want that many roommates. Sounds like a mess.

When you're working 90-100 hours a week, you don't see each other much anyway, never eat at home so you don't really need a kitchen, and it can't hurt to save up to pay off student loans/save for grad school?

I work anywhere from 60-100 hours a week depending on what's going on with work.

I have for a while. And while I'm married now, so things are different with my lovable "roommate", I remember a few key things from when I was living on my own. I wanted my own space. I worked hard to have my own space. I did not want to find a mess in my kitchen unexpectedly. I did not want unexpected guests or noise or anything when I came home from work a 2am tired. I did not want people borrowing my things. Etc. I could never deal with that many roommates!

But to each his own!

If you are all going to work 50-100 hours a week, thats normal.

I work those amount of hours, but get to take work home. You aren't always going to be in the office. Employers have been becoming more flxible - a lot of places have been renting smaller spaces and allowing employees to bring work home.

Truth be told, 5-6 people in a small space isn't going to work. Its Manhattan. Not only are the apartments small, but everyone is going to work different hours as well.

If each is going to make 50-80 x $1,500 (which will be hard for someone out of college), maybe get (2) 2 br apartments on the same floor.

Ya guess 5 or more wouldn't be the best idea. Sort of works out since 4 of us are midtown and 2 fidi/Tribeca.

Ya the hours are terrible, but for a 22 y/o the money is great and it's a pretty good learning experience
